The inspiration and ideas for their books came from sharing combined adventures with their own families and a mutual belief in the importance of giving children and young people the freedom to enjoy outdoor adventures. Hello Yellow - 80 Books to Help Children Nurture Good Mental Health and Support With Anxiety and Wellbeing - As a parent who tries to achieve as much nature time as possible in hopes of raising a productive and healthy child -- I couldn't have asked for a more FUN and ENCHANTING book.I really hate to make this sound so harsh because I do value the ideas here! It's a beautiful book. I just wonder if a 15 year old might enjoy this kind of doodling, etc. more than a 7 year old. This book was really good!!!! For me, it was a real departure from the two KH books I’ve already read (The Nightingale and The Great Alone) and I’m sure that’s because it’s one of her older books. Still, it had some hallmarks of these; sisters, scenic location, THE FEELS. Jo Schofield is an environmental educator and author who works with her writing partner Fiona Danksto create beautiful books about the natural world. Fiona and Jo believe that reconnecting everyone with nature is vital if we are to understand our reliance on a healthy and biodiverse natural world, and ensure it is protected for the future. They believe that all children and families should regularly spend time outdoors in green spaces where nature can weave its magic upon them. Interesting plot. I struggled with the quality of the writing, the easy/awkward introduction of a romantic subplot, and the oversimplification of "small town life". Just to start, in this book "small town life" = the REPEATED mention of who was homecoming queen 20 years ago by almost EVERY adult character in the novel, loads of uninformed gossip, the collective "best friendness" of the entire police department, etc., etc., & ...etc. December 3, 2012: Wild was named No. 6 best non-fiction book of 2012 by The Christian Science Monitor. Leahy, Anna (February 27, 2019). "The Enduring Appeal of Cancer Lit". Los Angeles Review of Books. Archived from the original on March 7, 2019. This dialogue in this book seemed to have a Lieutenant Horatio Caine (David Caruso in CSI Miami) undertone. While I understand that the intent of this book is to celebrate nature and invite children to engage with nature in a meaningful and imaginative way, I do wonder if a book like this really is the right means to that end. I genuinely feel that this book will appeal to adults much more than children, and perhaps should even be marketed as an "adult coloring book"! Hallett, Alison (2012-03-15). "Cheryl Strayed's Wild Optioned by Reese Witherspoon | Blogtown, PDX". Blogtown.portlandmercury.com. archive.Kin, John (April 12, 2013). "2013 Oregon Book Awards Winners Announced". OPB (Oregon Public Broadcasting). Archived from the original on September 15, 2014. The story took many interesting and unexpected twists and turns. It was an all-around captivating read and one of my favorite Kristen Hannah books I’ve read in a while. It had a bit of everything including romance, mystery, tragedy, and drama. At the age of 22, Strayed had been devastated by the lung cancer death of her mother, who was only 45. Her stepfather disengaged from Strayed's family, and her brother and sister remained distant. Strayed and her husband divorced, and eventually a lover convinced her to start using heroin. [1] This is my first book by Kristin Hannah. I really enjoyed her writing style. I have The Nightingale on my list to read next.
