Description

There are two main types of bed rails available: wooden bed guards and mesh bed rails. Wooden bed guards are designed for single and double beds, as well as cot beds. They provide a sturdy and durable barrier to keep children safe while they sleep. Installation is a breeze, as you simply slide the bed rail under the mattress – no drilling or screwing required. Wooden bed guards come in various lengths and heights to suit different bed sizes and mattress depths. Safetots also recommend against using bedguards on the lower bunk bed level. Many children find bunk beds the indoor equivalent of a climbing frame and a serious accident may occur should a child use the rail as a foothold or spring board when climbing on and off the top bunk. Play of this nature may also compromise the stability of the fixings or fatigue the components making it unsafe for its purpose. As tempting as it may be to tie teddies and similar to the bedrail to create a sleepy environment, these pose strangulation and entrapment dangers, and nothing should ever be attached to the bedguard that is not part of the fittings. Wooden bed rails are less suited for travelling, they are heavier than mesh bed rails and not the best option for taking with you on holiday. Bed guards and rails are aimed at toddlers, with the recommended age usually being from 18 months to 5 years. Many manufacturers advise not using a bed rail on a sleeping surface that is more than 60cm from the floor, so they wouldn’t be suitable for the top bed of a bunk. When choosing these toddler bed guards, we considered and compared protection, comfort, ease of assembly, convenience and portability.

Ensure secure installation with no movement or gaps. Leave a clear gap of at least 25cm between the bed rail and both ends of the bed for easy access. Always follow manufacturer’s instructions for installation and safe use. Child specific bedrails are recommended up to age 5 as they are designed and tested to support a certain maximum weight. Your child is likely to have learnt the art of sleeping away from the edge by this age, but also may be capable of undoing any bedrail fixing and becoming heavier than the tested weight, thereby creating a potential hazard greater than falling onto the floor. Important Information Children’s bedguards are designed and tested for domestic use only, being suitable for children aged between 18 months and 5 years. They are not designed for use with the elderly or infirm adults. The type of mattress and bedframe the bedrail will be attached to is as important as the bedrail itself from a safety perspective. Any gap between the rail and attaching surface could become an entrapment hazard. For this reason, select a quality mattress for your child which does not easily compress at the edges when a child equivalent weight is applied. Choosing the most suitableand a compatible Bed Guard for your child's Cot Bed, Single Bed or Double Bed etc can be a daunting task. With so many sizes and styles to choose from, making an informed choice will ensure your child's bed guardfits your mattress and bed perfectly and ultimately is safe for your child to sleep alongside. Place the bed guard half-way down the bed so that it sits in the middle. This guarantees the safest place, as it prevents your toddler from rolling out whilst sleeping at either end of the bed. Most Safetots branded bed guards are suitable for double beds with either a slatted or solid base. For the safety of your infant, it is important with any bed guard to ensure there is little or no movement once installed."

What are bed rails made of?

If you are planning holidays or family visits, Travel Bed Guard category offers portable and compact solutions. For larger beds, we haven’t forgotten about you. Our Double Bed Guard and King Size Bed Guard collections can help you ensure that everyone in your household enjoys a safe night’s sleep, no matter what size bed they’re using. Installation and Safety Guidelines Regular cleaning:Toddler bed rails should be cleaned regularly to prevent the buildup of dirt and bacteria. Use a mild soap and warm water to clean the rails, and dry them thoroughly with a clean towel. Some bed rails have covers that can be removed and washed in a washing machine.

Safetots Mesh Bed Railsare suitable for a bed with a mattress sunken in to the frame and for beds with a wooden slatted base. Safetots Wooden Bed Railsare suitable for wooden beds with a slatted base and also beds with a sunken mattress. If you have a sunken mattress, it’s important to choose a bed rail without bulky hinges which may prevent the bed rail from fitting between the mattress and the bed frame. Safetots has a wide range of mesh bed rails for kids in a variety of colours from well-known manufacturers, including our own range of Safetots bed guard rails . Is the bed rail compatible with your style of bed? Not all bed rails are compatible with sunken beds for example. text": "Before positioning your bed guard, it is important to ensure you are fitting a suitable bed rail for the bed and mattress intended. With all bed rails and child bed guards, it is recommended that there is at least a clear 25cm gap between each end of the bed and the bed rail. All Safetots’ bedguards have been tested and comply with the British Standard 7972:2001+A1:2009 when fitted in accordance with the instructions. Safety Testing When buying a product to help keep your child out of harm’s way, Safetots believe it is worth investing in one that has been tested to a professionally approved level of safety using rigorous testing methods. For this reason and where applicable, our products are tested to a British Standards Institution (BSI) standard and/or equivalent international standard. Each standard that our products complies with has been drawn up by a group of experts in the field. Not only do they have extensive knowledge about their product and credibility in the child safety product industry, they are also fully aware of the potential hazards posed by poor quality items being used in the home where children are involved.Bed guards and bed rails are not designed specifically for double beds although some bed guards are suitable. If your double bed has an extra deep mattress you may wish to consider investing in an extra tall and extra wide bed rail . This is considered the most suitable and safest bed guard for double beds. An extra tall bed rail will provide you with additional height and therefore greater safety for your child.

text": "If your child’s bed is against a wall, you will only need to fit one bed guard to the exposed side of the bed. Should your child's bed be in the centre of their bedroom, a bed guard fitted to both sides of the bed is advised. Bed rails simply aid in preventing your child from falling out of their bed as they make the transition from a cot to a bed and therefore if in the middle of a room, double bed rails are advised." If possible, put one side of your toddler's bed against the wall. This prevents the need to buy multiple bed guards, and offers a natural guard instead. It is important to fit a compatible bed guard to your toddler's bed to ensure the ultimate safety and, upon installation, make sure there is little to no movement. Bed guards should be installed at the head of the bed and not at the centre or foot of the bed and a 25cm gap between the bed rail and both ends of the bed should be visible" All Safetots’ bedrails provide the maximum mattress depths and lengths in the product spec information to make it easier for our customers to select one that is compatible with their child’s bed. A minimum mattress length is also supplied to make certain that there is at least a 25cm gap either end of the bed as recommended by the British Standards Institution (a measurement deemed wide enough for the child to safely leave the bed without being tempted to climb over the rail). Inflatable mattresses are to be avoided in conjunction with a bedguard as these can easily be punctured and deflate. Bedguards are not suitable for waterbeds for obvious reasons or camping beds where there is only a canvas sleeping surface attached to a metal frame. Nor is it safe to use them on the upper level of a bunk bed as a fall from this height is life threatening. There are several bed guards that will work with a cot bed, however, the depth of the mattress is key to ensuring there is enough weight to hold the cot bed rail in place safely. Ensure you have a good mattress that will hold the bed rail in place. Smaller bed rails such as the Safetots Narrow Mesh is a small, light-weight bed rail that would be suitable. The Safetots Narrow Mesh Bed Rail is available in a range of colours, White , Natural and Grey to match home interiors and toddler bedrooms. The Safetots Narrow Wooden Bed Rail would also be suitable for a cot bed and is a heavier option and compatible with a more substantial mattress.

All of our bed safety rails are suitable for cot beds, single beds, queen beds, and double beds, and our wooden bed guards range in length from 110cm to extra wide at 140cm. These bed rails have a standard height of 38cm, but wide and extra tall options are available. If you decide to go on holiday or to visit a family member and stay overnight with your child, do not worry! You can still enhance your little one’s safety as mesh bed rails are easy to transport. Get peace of mind away from home knowing your tot is sleeping safely in their bed with this lightweight option. Mesh bed rails are recommended as the best option for travelling due to their lightweight and portable design, easy fold-down mechanism, and compatibility with most beds and mattresses.

Providing your curious toddler with the freedom to leave their bed when adults may be sleeping requires some safety planning. Many families decide that a safety gate across the bedroom door will provide an early warning system that their child is awake and ready to start their day, giving tired parents and carers an extra couple of minutes to wake up themselves! More importantly, the stair gate will restrict exploration to their bedroom, keeping inquisitive tots away from toiletries in bathrooms or hazards in other rooms such as older siblings’ toys or small items which could be a choking hazard or similar.Safetots offer a range of extra tall bed guards in both wood and mesh, available in different widths. We have extra wide bed guards suitable for a range of mattress sizes, including double and king size beds. However, please note that these rails cannot be used with bunk beds or inflatable beds.
