Description

The Casio F-91W is a digital watch manufactured by Japanese electronics company Casio. Introduced in June 1989 [1] as a successor of the F-87W, [2] it is popular for its low price and long battery life. [3] As of 2011, annual production of the watch is 3million units, which makes it the most sold watch in the world. [4] Specifications [ edit ] Design [ edit ] First of all, the 1/100-second stopwatch is extremely accurate. Plus, there’s a lap timer option that comes very handy. The Casio F-91W is probably the most popular wristwatch ever made. It’s been in production forever, it’s been worn by presidents, and according to US Army intelligence it is “the sign of al-Qaeda”. There’s a lot of history in this classic watch. That said, there is exactly one problem with this watch: it’s barely water resistant. [David] thought he had a solution to this problem, and it looks like he may have succeeded. This classic watch is now waterproof, down to 700 meters of depth. If you’re ever 700 meters underwater, you have bigger problems than a watch that isn’t waterproof.

Counterfeits [ edit ] Holding the right button for 3 seconds in the main timekeeping mode leads the display to show "CASIo", which is useful to spot a counterfeit model (applicable for newer models of the F-91W and its variants, including F-94W and A158W) Additional Functionality – What are the extra features of the watch apart from the showing hour, minute, and second? He chose the Casio F-91W as the donor wristwatch. It’s got that classic Casio look of a segment LCD display capable of displaying hours, minutes, and seconds, as well as day and date. But the added bonus is that we know these have decent water resistance while still providing three buttons for user input. Sure, it’s less buttons than the pink calculator watch we saw [Dave Darko] working on earlier in the week, but which would you trust in the pool?

It is the horological equivalent of a Coca-Cola, the Big Mac of timepieces. It tells the time with no frills and no fuss. The diminutive Casio manages to be large enough to look good on a man’s wrist but small enough to fit a lady or a teenager without too much trouble. It has rudimentary water-resistance and can take a great deal of punishment. Most important of all, it is essentially maintenance-free and tells the time accurately. Okay, so it isn’t quite perfect…. The Casio F-91W has been used for nefarious purposesI accidentally pushed the single right pusher for the few seconds required to see the Easter egg “CASIo” anti-counterfeiting display. Yes, as with two dollar Chinese plastic Hero fountain pens, there are actually fakes out there, some of which have incorporated this stealth hallmark. Beschizza, Rob (August 14, 2023).
