Another horrifying true crime limited series has just hit Netflix. The Nurse, a Danish thriller series directed by Kasper Barfoed, recounts the story of Christina Aistrup Hansen, a nurse who was arrested in March 2015 for allegedly killing her patients at Nykøbing Falster Hospital in Denmark. The series stars Josephine Park as Hansen and Fanny Louis Bernth as fellow nurse Pernille Kurzmann, per IMDb. Pernille goes through the records and finds out that Christina has registered an astounding twenty-two deaths, which makes her suspect the latter’s involvement in the same. She shares her concerns with her partner and doctor Niels, who dismisses the same since Christina is one of the best nurses at the establishment. But he takes a special interest in the case of John Dalgaard, who died unexpectedly without any specific and reasonable causes. Niels realizes that something severely wrong is happening at the hospital, which makes him agree with his partner. They go through the death rate recorded at Christina’s former workplace and notice that the same was reduced by forty deaths after the latter departed from the place. The patients were a 72-year-old man who died in 2012 and two more patients, an 86-year-old woman and a 66-year-old man, who died on the same day, February 28, 2015. In all cases, high dosages of morphine and diazepam (better known as Valium) were found in their bodies. And the night nurse working in the hospital department was always Christina Aistrup Hansen. Hansen was held in high regard among her colleagues at the hospital, but during night shifts, she administered patients with lethal doses of diazepam and morphine — only to then help save them after their condition suddenly nose-dived. When Kurzmann eventually raised the alarm, others at the hospital came forward and said they had long held similar suspicions.

There are certainly cliques in the ER, and Pernille finds herself in the clique with Christina, who likes to drink at clubs after work. In 2010, Cristina would complete her first year working in Ward M130. That year, 87 patients were declared dead. An unusually high number. In 2011, a startling 95 patients were declared dead. As the death toll climbed, Cristina’s colleagues became increasingly wary of the sinister statistics, which lead to Cristina being accused of poisoning her patients in 2012.
