Description

This anthology is comprised of 8 tales with a lot of recognisable names from the indie horror scene. Whilst reading this, I was really reminded of The Ritual by Adam Nevill. A brilliant book I urge you to read at once. It's based around four old friends hiking in the Swedish forests where they ultimately get lost and find themselves becoming hunted.

Hoffer, Christian (November 2, 2021). "Old Gods of Appalachia Tabletop RPG Announced". ComicBook.com. Paramount Global. Archived from the original on March 18, 2022 . Retrieved March 18, 2022. BRAIDS, LIKE ROOTS by Damascus Mincemeyer: Narrated by an old man, remembering his distant youth and the eerie events that occurred at his family's farm, this story carries an authentic feel of witchcraft, with overtones that resonate powerfully with old-world fairy lore. Great stuff! I've read a lot by Renee and was really excited to see she had a story in here. Like with her longer tales Eat the Rich and Church her dark dark sense of humour is present, making her stories really creepy and plausible. Another tale of a small town with strange locals and even stranger practices was The Town of Afurisit by Charity Langley. A girl is ‘sent’ to the town by her History Professor as a sort of prize. OK, the set-up here felt a little forced but the setting of the town was frightening enough for this to be forgiven. Although she doesn’t want to be there she embraces her visit with the insane lady she’s staying with. When she’s taken to church the following morning things get freaky weird, and fast. You’re screaming at her to just get the hell out of there, but she just doesn’t listen. This was a grim and great story. Today, tourists come from all over the country to visit the home of the Flatwoods Monster. To learn more about this Appalachian scary story, visit the Flatwoods Monster Museum in Sutton WV.This town, Dudley town was built in the 18th century and was abandoned by the inhabitants in the 19th century with visible ruins being left behind. The real story about the reason for the inhabitants abandoning the town is not clear but there are several stories around this. Some people believe that the town was abandoned because the residents who stayed there soon went insane or committed suicide after claiming they were possessed by demons. In the present day, people have reported seeing strange lights and orbs surrounding this damned village. Since the mid-1800s, thousands of Bigfoot sightings have been reported all over the United States (including dozens of reported sightings in the North Georgia mountains).

I had no idea where this tale was going to go making it a really thrilling read. Can't wait to read more by this author.

The legend holds that a Cherokeefemale was cursed by tribal elders for witnessing a sacred pre-hunt ceremony. She hid under the pelt of a large cat and got turned into the half-woman, half-beast we hear about in this famous Appalachian myth. Appalachian Horror is themed around well, Appalachian Horror. For those of you who don't know, Appalachia is a region stretching from New York to Georgia. It's famed for the Appalachian trail which people hike across. We welcome you to explore what’s out there, but “leave no trace.” Horror films like “Wrong Turn” prove that the influence of misguided visual representations of Appalachian people produced by journalists in the 1960s has extended much further than socio-political dialogue in a War on Poverty. That a “Stranger with a Camera” should betray our people and wilderness comes as no surprise. The painful legacy of these stereotypes about our region has shown us what 15 years of wrong turns can do. Appalachia is not Hollywood’s nightmarescape. That neighbor who’s field we stumbled into? They were friends with my mom, and started telling her about a bunch of their barn cats going missing, but they hadn’t thought anything of it since we have a lot of coyotes. (Still at that point hadn’t told my mom about our discovery in the woods because I figured she’d never let me leave the yard.)
