There were around 1,000 entries in the first event, which was held in the Metropolitan area of London. The tournament then began to expand around the different counties in England. By 1938/39 there were six different regional events – London& South England, Wales, Lancashire& Cheshire, Yorkshire, the North of England and the Midland Counties. [2] The breaks are the great imponderables, the fractions, in flight that mean the difference between a dart in a double and a doleful expression. Darts crowds understand such things. They are so knowledgeable it's almost frightening. They are really the championship dropouts, the players who have been beaten on the road to the finals.

The latest donation came from the Auew Club in West Regent Street in the city centre. Last night they held a "Pro-Am" darts tournament involving club members and Rangers and Celtic footballers. Embodying the heritage of darting excellence, the Classic Signature Jim Pike model features a glossy finish and hand-polished barrel, exuding sophistication and style. Made in England, these darts reflect the country's renowned craftsmanship and commitment to quality. The fund closes on March 24 with a dance in the Celtic Social Club' One of the organisers of the fund Mrs Ruby Gourlay, said, "The support for the fund has been tremendous."

Ollie Croft drew up a comprehensive set of rules for the game and this included a new Metric regulation throwing distance of 7ft 9 ¼ inch which was used for competitions as a standard worldwide. It was adopted by most leagues throughout the world but even to this day some still throw at 8 feet and some at 7 ft 6, and although the board has specifications laid down for its structure there is still in use a Yorkshire board with no trebles on it. Each set includes three premium darts, meticulously constructed for exceptional durability and precision. These darts strike the perfect balance between accuracy and comfort, allowing you to throw with confidence and finesse. Experience the pinnacle of darting excellence with our Signature Professional Soft Tip Darts Collection. Made in England, these premium quality darts are designed to elevate your game to the next level. They offer exceptional durability, balance, and precision for unparalleled performance.

In the early 1900s games of chance were illegal in public houses and it was considered that darts came into this category. However a landlord called Foot Anakin challenged this ruling in court. He set up a board in court and threw three darts into the 20 segment. Then he challenged the court officials to do the same. None of them could match his accuracy so the court ruled that it was not a game of chance. This led to the game becoming even more popular in public houses and led to regular teams and competitions. Mr william Keaney (right), mine host of the Sou Wester, Bridge Street, Glasgow, with the new Whitbread Four-Man Shield put up for annual competition between darts teams from the Sou Wester and the Quaich. Company representative Mr Harry Anderson made the presentation., 1975.
