Description

The book contains a foreword by broadcaster Fearne Cotton, who went to the same school as Rochelle and is one of her cousin’s best friends. For eight-year-old Betsy, every day is a new opportunity to be kind, positive, and to spread happiness. Through a fantastical journey, a small girl teaches readers how to see the beauty in everything that happens. Cuddle up to a teddy bear coat:As Max Mara celebrates ten years of its cosy design, we pick the best.

Betsy Griffin, from Chorleywood, Hertfordshire, whose debut book Out of the Woods is out now and based on her powerful YouTube videos, joined Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughy on This Morning to talk about her harrowing journey. With beautiful illustrations by Emmanuel Santos and a foreword by bestselling author, broadcaster and podcaster Fearne Cotton, who will also read the audiobook, Betsy’s book will inspire us all. Betsy's outlook on life is always optimistic, despite the challenges she's faced along the way: as she said to Gareth Malone when she performed at his Christmas concert in 2017, 'well, that's life, Gareth! The youngster endured 18 months of chemotherapy before having a biopsy and going on targeted treatment, which she remains on today.Compared to her peers, she’s just as capable and if anything there’s not many six-year-old kids who have started their own YouTube channel to do what she’s doing. It is described as “a feel-good collection of fables to teach and guide you through life, support your mental health, and inspire you. Her dad, Stuart Griffin, said: “Compared to a year and half of chemotherapy which was horrendous, the side effects we know of - obvious this is a trial, we don’t know the long-term side effects - have been very, very manageable. Viewers were left ‘in tears’ over Betsy’s positive outlook and heartbreaking journey, with plenty of people flooding social media with emotional messages.

It is important that we continue to promote these adverts as our local businesses need as much support as possible during these challenging times. The fully illustrated fable captures themes that reflect Griffin’s spirit and her inspirational outlook when it comes to kindness, bravery, music, gratitude, positivity, resilience, family and friends. Betsy Griffin, from Chorleywood, was diagnosed with a low-grade optic nerve glioma at the age of two after developing nystagmus, a condition that causes involuntary eye movements.

We use cookies to personalise content and ads, to provide social media features and to analyse our traffic. An inspirational 9-year-old who lost her eyesight to a brain tumour wants to inspire people to be more positive. I always found it interesting the way she would frame it compared to how an adult probably would, she just has a positivity about her. In this deeply moving and inspirational fable, she teaches us how to face our struggles with courage and determination, and shares powerful lessons about positivity, kindness and hope.
