Description

Advanced Bushcraft expands the 5 Cs model to encompass critical tools, equipment and skills to extend your stay in the wilds, teaching you much of what you would need to know about living sustainably long-term in the woods. It based on Canterbury's Five C's of Survivability - Cutting Tools, Covering Elements, Combustion devices, containers and cordage. As the sections suggest, the first part is all about the kit you need and how to use it, covering topics like what sort of pack to choose and how to carry it. A castor mound set for trapping beaver is perhaps a bit outside of the scope of what this book needed to be. But since I've been watching a lot of Dave's videos on his YouTube channel I've understood a lot better several concepts and how-to's explained in the book.

It wasn’t a particularly long section and I didn’t mind learning a bit about the early days of bushcraft survival. Once you have a basic kit sorted, the second half the book launches into a basic overview of wilderness skills including, camp craft, fire lighting and navigation. Dave Canterbury is an American bushcraft and survival instructor who is best known for, among other things, the Pathfinder Bushcraft School and Self Reliance Outfitters, his partnership with the knife maker Morakniv and his appearance on TV shows such as Dual Survival. This is a very good introduction of what you should expect to learn and know if you choose to be out in the wild.Ich habe dann aber sicherlich keine Tellerfalle aus Industriestahl dabei oder eine der anderen Gerätschaften, die beschrieben werden.

g., making a rock broiler, recipes for cowboy coffee) to complicated projects that take forever (I would love to meet anyone who has ever caught any edible thing in a suspended deadfall trap). This book's main premise is to provide the beginner with basic, essential, and introductory information and skills to take advantage of what nature makes available, using minimal gear, to survive and thrive in the natural world. I have been learning about bushcraft for a few years but I have yet to make my own shelter, and I'm also not particularly interested in hunting or fishing, so it was a good book to solidify some of my knowledge, but I think Canterbury overestimated what someone just getting into bushcraft needs and wants from a 101 guide. This brings in select pieces of gear with a focus on durability and adaptability, using materials such as leather, cast iron and canvas to make more permanent stays comfortable.

This book was a New York Times Best Seller when it published, showing the popularity of the subject and the book. Not only does it go over techniques, but it also goes over the equipment you need for bushcraft and it even has some suggestions for equipment. Im Großen und Ganzen ist der Inhalt nicht schlecht, ist für mich als langjährigen Pfadfinder sehr oberflächlich.
