I treated myself to this book because I had bought a magazine with the pattern for the wrap (on the front cover) inside it. With innovative techniques and inventive combinations of basic stitches, Granny Square Flair is an essential addition to every crochet reference library. There are cushions and seat covers to brighten up your living room, plus place mats, drinks coasters and a runner for your table.They can be used like building blocks and combined with other squares to make original projects and gifts or used to embellish larger items. This is a spiral bound book with the heavy cardbord cover, while it lays flat for easy working I am afraid that with too much use the pages will start to tear at the spiral. Insert the hook into the first of the five double crochets made, pick up the dropped loop, and draw it through.

I have long had an idea of making a sort of crazy quilt but with granny squares and with this books guidance I can finally make it happen.Insert the hook through the back loop only of each stitch, rather than under both loops of the stitch. There are tips in there that you need to read, like how to make all the squares the same size (even though no gauge information is included), a section on decoding the instructions (yes – you do need this part), how to do special stitches, how to join the squares, and more. I used the book during a 1-1 crochet lesson with lovely Lindsay who I’ve been enjoying teaching… this was a real test for the pattern! Brilliant for first time or long standing crotcheters with varying skill levels and useful projects.

The images are lovely and clear and the instructions are concise enough for beginners and more experienced crocheters. Wrap the yarn over the hook again and draw it through two of the loops so there are now two loops on the hook.
