In addition to doing Gruffalo math today, we also went on some #gruffaloadventures around San Francisco! As part of our Forest Fun Gruffalo Week we will be joining in with the Gruffalo Adventures Facebook Contestand we'll be going on some Gruffalo adventures too!! Then I said a number out loud. First she had to use her spray bottle to spray the correct number (that I said) and then she had to erase it using her towel. The Gruffalo is a lovely book by Julia Donaldson. The book shares the adventures of a mouse as he tries to escape some of the hungry animals in the forest... and winds up inventing the Gruffalo to save himself!

In addition to loving this creative book, my kids absolutely adore The Gruffalo DVD . They will watch it again and again and again. My husband and I think it is fabulous too. You can use the space on the window to draw a picture or make dots or other things to help you as you solve the problem. The mouse, amused by his own imaginative tales, felt confident as he continued through the woods. But to his astonishment, he stumbled upon a real Gruffalo, with “terrible tusks, and terrible claws, and terrible teeth in his terrible jaws.” The Gruffalo, looking exactly as the mouse had described him, growled at the tiny creature, intending to make him his next meal. Believing that the other animals were terrified of the mouse, the Gruffalo started to fear the little creature himself. The mouse further convinced the Gruffalo that his favorite food was Gruffalo crumble, a delectable dish that would be prepared by the mouse himself. Terrified at the thought of being the main ingredient, the Gruffalo hurriedly fled, leaving the mouse to bask in the glory of his cunning victory.

This week for Virtual Book Club Summer Campwe are having some fun in the forest with the characters from The Gruffalo! Make sure to stop by later today when we share our featured Virtual Book Club Summer Camp activity that includes doing some Number Gruffalo fun!The Gruffalo is a wonderful book by Julia Donaldson. It was featured earlier this year as part of our Virtual Book Club for Kids. The Gruffalo tells the tale of a mouse that is taking a walk through the forest and runs into a hungry fox, then an owl, and then a snake. To avoid getting eaten, the mouse invents the Gruffalo! Have you ever used a spray bottle to do math? Have you tried any math activities with The Gruffalo? Take it with you on all of your adventures this week (or even for the rest of the month, the contest goes till the end of July!)

As the mouse continued his journey, he met the slithery snake, whose appetite was also piqued by the sight of the tiny mouse. However, the mouse, undeterred, cleverly informed the snake about his Gruffalo lunch, insisting that the Gruffalo adored a scrambled snake. The snake, terrified at the thought, slithered away in fear.Write a different number on the glass in front of the first two Gruffalos using a whiteboard marker. I'd love to have you join in with the Gruffalo Adventures coloring contest, so here's what you need to do... Cut around each Gruffalo on each sheet and hang three of them up side by side with tape on the outside of the windows facing inside your house. Then close the door/window. The window glass should be between you and the Gruffalo.

But the clever mouse didn’t panic. Instead, he hatched a plan to save himself. He boldly declared that he was the “scariest creature in this deep dark wood” and invited the Gruffalo to walk beside him and witness the fear he instilled in the other animals. The mouse took the Gruffalo to meet the fox, the owl, and the snake, who all scurried away in fright at the sight of the supposed fearsome duo. Once upon a time, in the deep dark wood, lived a clever little mouse. He loved taking walks and exploring the forest, using his imagination and wit to outsmart any danger that crossed his path. One day, as he ventured through the woods, he encountered three predators: a fox, an owl, and a snake. The Encounter with the Fox Later on she also tried drawing her own numbers on the three Gruffalo too... and then erasing them and writing them again. This week for Virtual Book Club Summer Camp it is Forest Fun Week! Here at Toddler Approved when we think of the forest, we think of one thing... THE GRUFFALO! So, this week we'll be sharing some Gruffalo themed fun and learning activities every day!Write in a plus or minus sign in between the first two numbers and an equals sign after the first two numbers. Once your Gruffalo number sentence is written out, you can start trying to figure out the answer! This activity was simple, involved water and drawing on the window, and let my daughter get a little messy/wet... so of course she was a big fan 🙂 Yesterday we shared a simple Spray Bottle Number Hunt with you and today we grabbed our spray bottles again for some more Gruffalo math activities! After awhile, my son wrote math number sentences for me to figure out and fill in. We had fun working together. This Gruffalo window math activity can help your child practice basic number recognition along with addition and subtraction!
