Description

Another good thing in the realm of sound is the music. It swells whenever a threat approaches, so the music (as in a horror film) is dynamic and actually helps the experience of the game. The melodies are straight out of a horror film (think frantic), and build the sense of urgency and danger. Demonic Possession: Deadites are once again possessing humans. This time around, Ash can possess them too with a right spell, complete with the famous Raimi-cam. Obfuscating Stupidity: Both Dr. Eldridge and Trisha Pettywood. Dr. Eldridge pretends to be an Absent-Minded Professor who's way out of his depth in studying the Necronomicon, while Trisha pretends to be a flirty, air-headed TV presenter. They're actually trying to use the Kandarian summoning stone to Take Over the World.

Arm Cannon: In the museum, Ash finds a fluid cannon for his stump that coats enemies in gasoline, allowing them to be set on fire with one shot; it gets upgraded into a flamethrower during the colonial era. During the Civil War era, Ash also gets a Gatling gun to strap to his stump. There are some good puzzle solving moments in the game, which often require some lateral thinking, and good observation of your surroundings, and also having to make full use of everything at your disposal. Genre Shift: The story is in continuity with Hail to the King, but plays nothing like it, being a third-person action game instead of a classic Resident Evil-style Survival Horror. And the Adventure Continues: At the end, it's revealed that Ash is in feudal Japan after having botched the sealing spell after beating Trisha. The Evil then starts possessing the palace guards, leaving Ash to fight his way out.

Dead and loving it

Mythology Gag: One of Ash's taunts is "Ever read A Farewell to Arms? Well I wrote it", which is reference to a visual gag in Evil Dead 2. If you haven’t played the previous Evil Dead game I mentioned earlier, it’s of little consequence, as this game has a self-contained story line, which doesn’t require any extra information. The crux of the game-play here is a mixture of action, adventure and exploration, and some puzzles solving, in dispersed with a fairly good narrative, of which I’ll go into some more detail later. Prior to being "acquired" by Ash Williams, the shotgun was owned by Raymond Knowby, who presumably used it for hunting on the property which the Knowby Cabin was located. It is unknown if Raymond bought the gun new or second-hand. The main problem with the graphics is that they start to blend together, level to level. Many of the areas look the same, and there isn't a lot of differentiation between buildings, streets, etc. In addition, the palette is boring… full of grays and greens that smear together. Objectives are automatically recorded on a "To-Do" list featuring scribbled handwriting on crumpled paper

The game is based on the game engine of State of Emergency, with very similar gameplay. Essentially it's a free-roaming beat-em-up with 360 degree aiming gunplay. There are a few pre rendered cut-scenes lightly peppered through the game, which admittedly look much prettier than the in-game stuff, with striking facial animations and gestures and an overall high level of polish. These provide an interesting diversion for some good narrative, and add some spice to the proceedings. This fight is pretty easy... if you know what to do. If not, you'll be throwing your controller, scratching your head or whatever it is you do to cope. You begin the fight with a shovel in your hand. That should be your first hint. One combat facet I particularly liked was the ability to shoot firearms over your shoulder, (as prominently seen in the third movie) to kill things that are creeping up behind you. This is done by holding the left trigger button, which effectively aims up the closest deadite in your proximity.Given the more open adventure style nature of the game, Saving progress is handled here with tokens that can be found at certain points about the various levels. Once collected, they are stored in your inventory, and can be used at any time during a level to keep all that you have accomplished to that point. Also, you get some freebie saves before and after a boss battle, which is a neat little inclusion.

While you’re going about your business, there are hordes of deadites to contend with, who serve to keep you busy while you are figuring out all the connections. The superstar of the sound department is Bruce Campbell, who lends his voice to the main character, Ash. This game wouldn't have been nearly as fun if it didn't have Campbell onboard, simply because his deadpan delivery of lines is perfect. Interpolation = 4; Disable Effects Processing = No; Use the de-alias filter = No; Enable Dubug options = No; Module = 1; Synchronizing Mode = TimeStretch Mix; Audio Expansion Mode = Stereo ) The polygon count for all the various models here is quite low, as you might expect, and it’s all fairly flatly textured, and as for pixel shading . . . forget it. After the Necronomicon is read aloud in a local television program, Deadites are running amok in the small town of Dearborn, Michigan. It's once again up to Ash ( Bruce Campbell) to fix things up by killing every sorry-ass deadite in his way and even travelling through time.

Wait until he is walking toward a barrel and gets close to it. Then, shoot the barrel and it will explode, flipping him over. Start shooting him after he flips over. Later in the fight, he will start charging you. When this happens, run along the walls until he runs into one, then start shooting him. Return to the main lobby. Facing the dinosaur's front, go up the left staircase, and follow the path to an Ice Age exhibit. You will start to hear the divining device bleeping at this point. As you get near the stuffed lion near the entrance to the next exhibit, the device will freak out. Use dynamite to blow a hole in the wall here and collect the blue crystal that is revealed. Move through the Volcanic Earth room to that of The Core. Use dynamite on the picture of the core to score a red crystal. In the watery exhibit room that's next, you'll find a vial that will boost your mana capacity. You'll also find the Summoner Spell and some dynamite. What a haul! There are two modes of play here, story mode and arcade mode, while the former is the chief bulk of the game, and the latter is kind of a “replay value” after thought. This is the second Evil Dead game I know of; the previous, also by THQ, was awful in every way. So awful, in fact, that I only bought this because someone said it was better. Enemy Mine: In The American Civil War era of Dearborn, Ash must convince the two opposing sides to unite their forces against the Deadite threat.
