She is a learning robot who has no idea what her purpose is, apart from to survive. At first, the wild animals are terrified of Roz as she’s a huge and scary looking metal robot. But things begin to change when she adopts a newly hatched gosling (after she falls on his family and crushes them all to death), and learns to become a wonderful mother and friend. A robot is accidentally activated, having been washed up on a remote island when a cargo ship sinks. At first the animals that inhabit the island fear Roz but she soon becomes a significant member of their community, adopting an orphaned gosling and providing shelter for them during the winter.

This is really a perfect children’s book that stays with you long after finishing; a modern-day classic in the making. I loved the book -it is amazing and I am trying to persuade my mum to let me buy the 2nd book - (The wild robot escapes) - and it is definitely worth reading 5 star review obviously!!!!!!!! I want the books to be in my school library but I keep forgetting to request it! I find this book interesting when she learned to speak animal language. I can't wait to read the second book "The Wild Robot Escapes" ! I requested it on the libary........ :) This is my favorite book I ever read in my life can not wait to read the 2nd book! I heard it is on a farm in the second. This is such an odd, original, thought-provoking and heartwarming tale. The book is a meditation on what it is to be human and, at the same time, an incredibly fun adventure. Readers will lose their heart to Roz and it’s a truly gripping read. The illustrations are also enigmatic and beautiful.Billy is an odd boy: he's quiet, different from other children, and his skin's always wrinkled from swimming in the sea. At heart, this is a story about friendship in the face of adversity, and Chloe Daykin's writing is clear, poetic and grips you from the start.
