The fact that he pushes the reader makes it easy for some to think of him as someone who relies on shock and disgust to sell his stories, but if you remove the make-up and look at the bare, naked tale, it is usually a damn good story. Follow a child of the streets who finally steered away from a life of crime only to be drawn back by a bizarre new drug. It was dark and messed up as fuck, but it also had the pulpiness of what you would expect from one of those Adult Oriented Comics. While The Slob is a graphic and extremely well-written horror story, it is, in my humble opinion, exceeded by its sequel, Son of the Slob. Aron’s work is hard to describe because, yes, it is sick, twisted, brutal and extreme, but he is also a story teller.

a mentally deranged protagonist, a derailment of sanity and so many vile moments you could fill a large garbage bag with them. Raised in a household so filthy it was stomach-spilling, Vera involuntarily evolved into a neat freak. Right from the start of this story, something popped out at me – this is probably much closer to the truth than the Hollywood fluff would like you to believe. She managed to get away from the terrible scenario, but the memories of her ordeal are permanently imprinted on her body and mind. Splatterpunk rarely tugs on the heart strings but this book will chew up your heart and spit it back out.Since most of what was happening was absurd and some situations were nearly comical because they could never occur, this wasn't even remotely frightening. This was the first time I had to put a book down and take a break, because my brain screamed NOOOOOOO! It isn’t for everyone of course cause it is disturbing for a lot of people, I personally enjoy it a lot because I’m just jaded as a person tbh, but I do want to let you know as well, the slob isn’t the only book that’s splatterpunk, however the slob is the only one that’s actually kind of well known about for a reason.

Includes a bunch of excellent interior illustrations that add to the overall aesthetic of this wonderful little book. Besides mom literally and figuratively cleaning up his messes, we meet some mischevious meth heads, a dickhead of a motel manager, a douchey detective, Vera's PTSD-addled husband, and couple of clergymembers very unlikely to be canonized. Aron Beauregard’s writing is incredibly, mind-numbingly, tearing-your-hair-out-to-feel-something-ly boring. Please read it first, to allow yourself the full macabre journey it takes you on, before you read any further. I travelled with Vera on her long, disturbing and horrific journey, and I felt every emotion along with her. Also, it will not be possible to separate it from the original story, so I am not allowed to tell you “It is not as good as…” – nothing is and I doubt ever will be, because I didn’t expect such a powerful story, which was part of the magic. Equipped with a nauseating flavor of rotted darkness, this morbid precious morsel will leave a long lasting taste of immoral decadence on the readers tastebuds. Both women have their own dedicated rape scenes, and objectification is taken to the extreme with one woman’s “oral lips being sewn to her lady lips. As her path crosses a heartless heathen’s compulsive behavior, she is now confronted with a perverted playground cultivated from the mind of a twisted psychopath.

TW: for sexual assault, torture, abortion, extreme violence, homophobia, murder, misogyny and pretty much everything-fucking-else, if I’m honest. She arrives at the home of the “Slob” about 47% into the book and after two or three pages of nauseating, detailed descriptions of every single physical feature of the “Slob” the book sprints through scene after scene of indulgent physical and sexual violence. There’s an addition to the family, 8 year old Harold, who is the offspring of The Slob, after having constantly beaten and raped Vera, 9 years ago. The vacuum not only triggering Vera but seducing her into a plan that lands her into arms of "The Slob" a big small dicked man of very few words who seems to be allergic to soap and Mr Clean but likes liver kidney pâté the human kind of course. Vera, Daniel and Harold live in filthy, disgusting, rat infested, grime-filled conditions but, whilst Vera is doing her best to keep the family afloat Daniel, her disabled and troubled husband, is struggling to the point of going under. For any of you who feels the violence and depravity is the most important part of the story, you need to read this book to learn about character development - because when the reader cares for the protagonist, they can FEEL the bad things happening.

The Reread was definitely not "enjoyable" at the horror aspect as it's extreme gore and violence towards women and a lot of trully terrifying this happens. After marriage and becoming pregnant, she purchases a fantastic new carpet cleaner and decides to try and supplement her income by selling this new model for a few weeks by knocking door-to-door to the good folk in the local, and not so local, community.
