Overall, nothing revolutionary, but it was enjoyable and as Sparks' novels go, it had a nice ending rather than a soul destroying one. :) I am still one of those people that enjoys Nicholas Sparks books and movies. I really prefer to read the book before I watch the movie, so I've owned the movie since it came out but never watched it. This was the first TBR takedown book and I am happy to say this seems to be working well, and now I don't have to unhaul this book. Yet it’s easier said than done. It’s ingrained within us to have feelings. This reader knows from Spitznagel’s views on macro matters that he too has feelings, but it’s apparent he doesn’t let them seep into how he puts money to work. Ever. As his Universal partner, Nicholas Taleb, puts it in his very enjoyable foreword to Safe Haven, “in more than two decades, I never saw him once deviate a micro inch from a given protocol.” Imagine that. Imagine being able to routinely tune out the outside noise, but more importantly the noise, emotions and political feelings within us that might cause one to deviate.

People don't understand why I dislike Nicholas Sparks' books. Here's what I think... I think he wrote a pretty good novel-- The Notebook--out of the gate. And then, because he had a fabulous smile and was a man who seemed to understand true romance and could write about it minus the smut, he got assigned to the best PR person in the history of publishing. Richard Roeper called the film "Bat. Bleep. Crazy." and asks if the filmmakers or a key character is out of her mind. Roeper expresses disbelief at the twist ending, and "how insane the whole thing is". Aside from the twist ending he would have given the film 2.5 stars, but ultimately gives it only 1.5 out of four stars. [15] Peter Bradshaw, writing for The Guardian, called Safe Haven's setting "a sugary vision of small-town America that does not correspond with the real world at any point." [16] Peter Travers of Rolling Stone gave the film zero stars out of four, and concluded his review by stating: "I hate Safe Haven. It's a terrible thing to do to your Valentine." [17] Accolades [ edit ] Christopher Artinian, born and raised in Leeds, West Yorkshire, left England and moved to the north-west of Scotland in the Outer Hebrides in 2004. His goal was to escape the hectic live in a big city and gain a better quality of life. He still lives there with his wife and dogs. Barefoot and covered in blood, a terrified Erin runs to an elderly neighbor’s house for shelter. After cutting and bleaching her hair, she arrives at a bus station. Cops appear and start looking for her, but she gets on a bus and escapes. Any issues with the book list you are seeing? Or is there an author or series we don’t have? Let me know!I don’t see why this book is categorised as romance. There is no love struggle, not really. The movie is actually more romantic, maybe because is not completely loyal to the book.

Jagernauth, Kevin (March 15, 2012). "Keira Knightley May Take 'Safe Haven' In Nicholas Sparks Adaptation From Lasse Hallstrom". IndieWire . Retrieved October 27, 2018.The first part is engaging enough, Katie is a strong character and I liked that. She also had a dark past that she's trying to ran away from. And Alex is,well, good inside out and has family on top of his priority list. Safe Haven is a 2013 American romantic drama fantasy thriller film starring Julianne Hough, Josh Duhamel and Cobie Smulders. The film marks the final film role for actor Red West. It was released theatrically in North America on February 14, 2013. The film was directed by Lasse Hallström, and is an adaptation of Nicholas Sparks' 2010 novel of the same name. The film was originally set for a February 8 release. [4] Plot [ edit ] The ending ruined it for me. The ending is dumb, contrived, unnecessary, insulting even. It made me feel stupid for spending the time to read this book. All the way until the end I was debating whether to give this book three stars or four because for all its faults (up until that point) it did keep me reading. Safe haven is the story of Katie, a beautiful young woman who is in an abusive relationship with her husband. Later, she runs away from him to a safe place, a small North Carolina town in Southport. She remains to herself in the new place. But a set of circumstances lead her into two new people. A widowed store owner of Southport, Alex, who becomes her romantic interest. Secondly, her neighbor Jo, who becomes her best friend. Will Katie find her safe haven in the new place? The story unfolds itself through some unexpected and mystical incidents. The novel has a movie adaptation with the same name. The movie was released in 2013, starring Julianne Hough, Josh Duhamel and Cobie Smulders. You can watch the trailer here.

Safe Haven is a fantasy romantic novel by American novelist Nicholas Sparks. It was published in 2010. According to WorldCat, the book is held in 2242 libraries. [1] Plot [ edit ] Gradually Katie relaxes and comes out of her shell as she socialises with Jo and with Alex and his kids. Eventually she tells large parts of her story, about the abuse and how she ended up in Southport. Her friendship with Alex blossoms, but so too does the trouble with her ex-husband. I admit there are parts that drag, like when they're talking endlessly at the beach or when Katie is recounting her day with Jo. I mean Jo might not know what Alex and Katie and the kids did but we do. Also the characters are far too mature and serious for me to relate to. Alex worries about kids and parenting. And Katie- she's disciplined enough to look only for items on sale while shopping! But I like them both individually and as a couple, which is why I was almost bored as they took and took and took their time to fall in love on the first part of the book. After the fire, Alex recovers several letters written by his late wife Carly before she died. They were prepared ahead of time for important events such as Josh's eighteenth birthday and Lexie's wedding day. He also reconciles with Josh. That is so because in addition to a head for numbers, the author is a storyteller. He explains his investment philosophy through the brilliant mathematical minds of the Bernoullis, through Nietzche, Albert Einstein, the SS Eastland is used to showcase the frequently cruel results of good intentions, his Burmese Water Dog is featured as a way of vivifying the simplistic nature of correlations, etc. etc. Though Safe Haven is full of charts and numbers, it reads as though it’s written by a poet. The author has a very interesting mind.

Cinemascore:: Movie Title Search". www.cinemascore.com. Archived from the original on December 20, 2018 . Retrieved January 9, 2019. Kevin is another story. That man has serious demons that have driven his mind to insanity. Legit psycho!!! He is that villain that you hate with a passion and seeing inside his head was the most disturbing thing ever! I mean for someone who quotes the bible a lot, the world he lived in was just wrong in every single aspect.

Alex knows family is everything. He also knows survival is everything. Leeds needs a hero. Heroes are made in the midst of trial. In the midst of war. In the midst of the effort to survive. Leeds needs Alex now. Today. I really enjoyed the story and the characters. The story is a typical story for him to write but I still liked it nonetheless, and particularly the letter at the end. En general, no fue nada revolucionario, pero fue agradable y, como dicen las novelas de Sparks, tuvo un final agradable en lugar de uno que destruya el alma.Mike and Emma Fletcher are trying to survive. Siblings living in Leeds, their city is overrun by the dead. Zombies are roaming the streets and Mike and Emma have to flee and keep their family safe. They and their younger siblings set off for far north-west Scotland, hoping to find their last remaining relative.
