Description

This one’s a slasher thriller about a woman who avoided a violent killer once– only to be targeted again. That’s one of the things I like about psychological thrillers, is that sense of what is someone truly capable of?

The case was puzzling and Bree has her hands full as she deals with her own grief and that of her niece and nephew. When Bree comes to town, they agree to work together, even if for different reasons, to find the truth of what happened to her. At the end of the day, I love the imagination and magic Sarah Pinborough puts into her fantasy novels, but I also love it when she gets down and real with her bold, gritty, and twisted thrillers. During her career she has published more than 20 novels and several novellas, and has written for the BBC.She wants to live like a normal teenager—chill with friends, go to swim practice, study for exams, have a boyfriend.

CROSS HER HEART by Melinda Leigh is the first book in the Bree Taggert romantic suspense/crime series and is largely set in upstate New York. I read and loved Sarah Pinborough’s Behind Her Eyes last year, and was excited to see her newest release, Cross Her Heart, available through Book of the Month Club for September. Rushing back to Grey’s Hollow to help her sister, Bree discovers that Erin has been murdered in her estranged husband’s home and that he, Justin Moore, is missing. I do want to say up front that this is tagged as romantic suspense but there is only a hint of romance in this and it’s only at the end.

The result is a smart, gripping novel about believable characters caught up in extreme, even extravagant circumstances. He starts to make a plan… I do not want to go into the plot, because that would ruin the story for you, but it is the story of a mother (Lisa) and her daughter (Ava) and what happens to their lives when secrets come out. So when I heard Sarah Pinborough was appearing at the June First Monday Crime event in London, it was the perfect opportunity to make amends. They may be used by those companies to build a profile of your interests and show you relevant adverts on other sites. I’m always down for sensationalism if the characters are nuanced enough, and it does sound like a fun read, so maybe I’ll pick it up one day.

Secrets don’t stay hidden forever, and when these secrets are revealed, their worlds collide in an epic manner.Lisa, Ava’s teenage daughter, is a lovely young girl – she’s growing up though and straining against the restraints of Lisa’s parenting and over bearing protectiveness. Sarah was the 2009 winner of the British Fantasy Award for Best Short Story and also the 2010 and 2014 winner of the British Fantasy Award for Best Novella, and she has four times been short-listed for Best Novel and was shortlisted for the British Book Award for best Thriller. Jodie is only five foot three, but she’s all muscle, lean, angry, and boyish in her swimsuit, and Ange has the curves.

I most definitely will be looking at the rest of the series as well as anything else this author has written. And I love books like that, where you think you have it figured out and then the author throws you for a loop.I think her thrillers are more consistently well told, while her fantasy can actually be quite hit or miss! Pinborough leaves plenty of little clues along the way (and in fact I think I would like to read this one again just to see what I missed) but, like any good illusionist, she uses this sleight of hand, distraction style technique to lure you into a false sense of security. She’s smiling as she comes to kiss me on the cheek, a cloud of apple shampoo and pink deodorant, but she looks tired. Behind Her Eyes is STILL on my TBR pile, and reading your review makes me want to go and pick that book up right now. Shocked and appalled by these sudden revelations about her mother, Ava has no intention of remaining with her; instead, she escapes to meet her Facebook crush and subsequently goes missing.
