It's a race against time for Jefferson to find the latest woman taken before it's too late and another woman is damaged for life. When he accepts a particularly disturbing case in London, Winter arrives to find a psychopath on the loose who likes abducting and lobotomising young women. It seemed like it stemmed from a lack of awareness and insensitivity towards the female characters, rather than a carefully crafted literary device. The haunting imagery from its pages will undoubtedly remain etched in my psyche for a considerable time, but I must credit the author for delivering such a chilling experience. Mentioned he saw a cute chick on Instagram last week and noticed she followed some of his friends, so he followed her. When he accepts a particularly disturbing case in London, Winter arrives to find a city in the grip of a cold snap, with a psychopath on the loose who likes abducting and lobotomising young women. Und tatsächlich kann Winter sich wie niemand anderes in die Gedanken der übelsten Verbrecher hineinversetzen, was ihn zu einem unschlagbaren Profiler macht. Will definitely check out more of Mique in the futute though as there's a lot of good writing at the start of the book.Bản thân mình thấy độ kinh dị của quyển này tầm thường, chỉ đơn giản là cưỡng ép bạo lực, tình dục, miêu tả mấy cái hành vi bạo lực và đồi trụy, tất cả chỉ đơn giản là không có gì ấn tượng, thậm chí không cần đọc mấy cái miêu tả mà có thể lướt qua đến cái kết luôn í. Keep in mind that anyone can view public collections - they may also appear in recommendations and other places. And when the intruder in YOUR home, your sanctuary, makes you do these things, that make you feel like you're worse than they are, more nasty and evil than them, that's a lot to accept and ultimately causes you to snap, and things go way beyond sick games! I really liked her and thought she was a great character to carry the story, rather than someone further up the hierarchy.

The narrative explores just how far someone is willing to go or sacrifice for someone they care about, especially when pushed hard enough. There are fascinating and well drawn characters on both sides of the legal divide, some likeable and some despicable but all rounded and believable and some of them are morally ambiguous, which is always interesting to read. So, I put it to one side, took a hell of a deep breath, and an hour later I came back to it and finished it and I'm glad I did! The first in James Carol's thrilling Jefferson Winter series, Broken Dolls offers rapid-fire suspense and a chilling look into the mind of a criminal - and into the mind of the one man who might be able to catch him. Alas none of the 'reward' came my way so these words are my own opinion even though I've got to say that even a saint would fancy some extra dosh!

for me extreme horror needs those things or else it feels like torture porn for the sake of torture porn which is not why i read extreme horror. If you had enough of brooding Scandinavian crime novels, American thrillers are simply too showy and you've already checked out the latest offering by Ann Cleeves, the next logical step is to start reading the superb Broken Dolls , debut novel by James Carol. He would shut his eyes and accurately depict the circumstances of the abductions and the horrors they endured, even to the type of psychopath they were dealing with and the conditions they were kept in. This book does not have the commentary or the unique setup that we saw in "Them" and is instead just a straightforward horrific account of what happens to this mother and her pre-teen daughter at the hands of a despicable human being.i've been starting to have conversation with others in the community who also read this genre about where lines should be and i'm not saying censorship or anything like that but what should be acceptable for the genre and this was crossing the line for me personally. It also served as a compelling homage to one of my favorite movies, "Funny Games," which only added to its appeal.

This is something I see a lot from male-identifying authors, particularly in the extreme horror community. Jefferson is haunted by these words but in this book this isn't really followed up and though this is a series I don't expect Jefferson to join in on the madness that his father was. I think there is also a little bit of a spark between the pair and as much as I would have loved a bit of a romance to be going on, I have to say I'm glad the author did not go down that route so that the story very much focuses on the extremely horrific crime. I had to keep reading just another page, another page, as everything raced towards a high tension ending. This is a creepy, gripping story with a very strong protagonist and antagonist that I would recommend to all but the most squeamish of mystery/thriller fans.
