This is despite the fact that the storylines weave to a certain extent, but there are so many small details throughout that give some scope on how thought-out the world is.

And while many of the characters were fine, I absolutely could not connect with the main protagonist and that hampered my enjoyment of the book.

This can be used for quicker traveling, as the top speed of the mount is higher than that of the Lightning Boots or its upgrades ( 41 mph vs.Additionally, there’s more anticipation in the second-half for what is to come, and that is shown with the characters themselves. Bringing their own unique and counter-balanced personalities to proceedings they ask questions such as: what is happiness?

Although the central plotline did feel like a one-off, it does demonstrate a purpose for the overall storyline. Emily Fletcher, Adriane Charday, and Kara Davies, three very different girls-turned-mages (mages are highly skilled "magic users"), band together to protect and find Avalon, the very source of all magic. The magic system was also really interesting, in which potential mages acquire the ability to wield magic only if they are touching a full mage at the moment of the mage's death. Now, I love a series, and if this book had run to its end and then left a fee doors open, I’d have been overjoyed.

I found Darkmage to be an extremely entertaining fantasy tale and I look forward to reading the rest of the books in the series.
