Description

She has performed at Carnegie Hall, the United Nations, the Tribeca Film Festival, Lincoln Center Out of Doors, the Nantucket Project, the Apollo Theater, the Royal Danish Theatre, among hundreds more. I thought on paper her poems might seem flat and lack that excitement and passion she had conveyed with ease on screen. On the other hand, the chance to see the poems on paper provided an opportunity to dig into them in a way that listening does not quite offer and even on the poems I had listened to, I noticed components I had not before.

Although Kay works primarily in spoken word poetry, she has had written poems published in magazines such as Foundling Review, DamselFly Press, and decomP literary magazine. It took a few poems for me to get into No Matter The Wreckage and get used to the distinctive style of the poems and the poet’s voice. One aspect that really took my breath away was Kay’s ability to render ideas of her own into intricate details with the significance still intact.Reading through the poems (to myself and out loud to family members) I found that I could not quite capture all of the magic that Sarah has when she presents her poems. She began performing poetry at the Bowery Poetry Club in the East Village at the age of 14, joining their Slam Team in 2006. There are poems about so many different subjects here all carefully constructed and eloquently written. I’ll always keep an extra supply of chocolate and rain boots nearby, because there is no heartbreak that chocolate can’t fix. I have shared the poem with all my friends and so far bought 5 copies of her beautifully illustrated hardback book of the same poem to give a copy to all my friends after they heard her words on the TED video.

This collection's transformative helps readers to find a sanctuary of words that uplift your spirit and ignite imagination. If you've ever seen a performance by Sarah Kay you probably realized how much she puts in her poetry.

Following the success of her breakout poem, “B”, Sarah Kay releases her debut collection of poetry featuring work from the first decade of her career. Description: Following the success of her breakout poem, "B," Sarah Kay releases her debut collection of poetry featuring work from the first decade of her career. Even though Sarah Kay has established quite the fan base on Goodreads and on the web, I just could not connect with these poems on a deeper level - perhaps because poetry has never been my genre of choice. Both fresh and wise, Kay's poetry allows readers to join in on her journey of discovering herself and the world around her.I knew (and some memorized) a good 50% of the poems in her book but what I was excited for the most are the ones I didn't know. The poems themselves aren't very long, 3 pages at most and 3 lines at least, so this makes this book something you can definitely throw in your bag and read between subway stops or while waiting in line for your morning coffee. I appreciate Sarah's collection because I definitely got to experience poetry in a different perspective.
