Cotton shirts are a bad choice of fabric for running. Although cotton is known for its softness, it holds too much sweat and moisture making it rough which causes chafing in your nipples. 2. Marathons and Ultras I recommend consulting with your healthcare provider if your nipples are extremely painful, hot, swollen, bleeding, or crusty, or if they don’t heal with easy home treatments. DO NOT immediately cover it with a band-aid. We actually want it to get some air to help encourage healing. And one thing not to do, band aids!!! I’ve seen this attempted many times and they without fail start flapping about mid-way through the race which leaves you annoyed and then dealing with chafing for the last half. 1. Use A Good Lubricant

One brand that I particularly like is the Body Glide because it’s not as messy as cream or Vaseline and they’re long-lasting. 5. Run Shirtless The size of your nipple area will obviously determine whether you need a larger piece to do the job. You might have seen long-distance runners with marks of blood in the nipple area of their shirts and wondered “ how the hell did that happen?“. As weird as it is, it’s quite common. Ordinary adhesive tape isn’t up to the job because it’s not designed to be kind to skin. Nipple tape is fashioned of a specific cotton-based adhesive that won’t chafe skin areas, no matter how much your chest jiggles during your run. They are similar to nipple covers except that they are Band-Aids and are made with runners in mind. They have a strong adhesive that holds them in place no matter the weather or how much you sweat; they won’t move. The Band-Aids are a great option if you can’t find good nipple covers that stay on when you run or jog. Jogger’s nipple or runner’s n ipple is most commonly seen in male marathoners and long distance runners as female runners suffer less common nipple chafing due to protection from soft padding in sports brassieres. 6 Steps You Can Take to Avoid Jogger’s Nipple and Runner’s Nipple:Daily start applying a moisturizer like Lanolin cream (I actually use this around my lips because they get so dry from my breathing on long runs).

Nipple chafing starts with a burning, stinging sensation that can be pretty uncomfortable, to say the least. It can progress to pain, irritation, and even bleeding, which can sometimes make running feel unbearable.

Doctors have found that some athletes are literally allergic to nipple tape. Further, should nipple areas be scratched or cut, this tape could introduce bacteria to the area, especially once sweating commences. This is the same thing that’s going to cause chafing under the arms, between the thighs, below the sports bra and even on the toes. If you have a hot spot area, then the tips that follow can be useful for all of them.
