The clever plot of Scott being brought in by a reclusive academic as a private investigator to investigate the gruesome murders of three individuals, where the killer seems to have a fascination about the Jericho family tragedy over 100 years ago where ancestor, "Slip-Jointed Jericho" and several other members of his "Freakshow" perished.

Jericho in Joshua? Why did God order the destruction of Jericho in Joshua?

Jericho finds himself recruited to investigate a series of murders that echo one-by-one the deaths in an old fairground legend in a most gruesome fashion, but the murderer seems to be one step ahead of him. As coincidences abound, the danger seems to get closer and closer to him. The last victim in the legend was a direct ancestor of Jericho – is he going to be the killer’s final victim? Holy ...! This is good! Do you love superbly written British thrillers? Dark and twisted? With queer rep? The first of a series? Read this! It's a wild ride of a story filled with gothic tones, fairground/traveller myths and legends, grotesque series of murders, and twists I never saw coming until the very end.The twist/ending I did not see coming and it did not spoil my enjoyment with it coming out of nowhere (although now finished, hindsight is a marvellous thing 😆). Spoiler: Dramatic licence was indeed well used by the author to allow Scott Jericho to survive his final run in with Kerrigan ahead of the conclusion with the killer. Then the Lord said to Joshua, “See, I have delivered ( G) Jericho into your hands, along with its king and its fighting men. 3 March around the city once with all the armed men. Do this for six days. 4 Have seven priests carry trumpets of rams’ horns ( H) in front of the ark. On the seventh day, march around the city seven times, with the priests blowing the trumpets. ( I) 5 When you hear them sound a long blast ( J) on the trumpets, have the whole army give a loud shout; ( K) then the wall of the city will collapse and the army will go up, everyone straight in.” With all this in mind, I wanted to love Killing Jericho, but ultimately I found the overwritten prose and far-fetched ending really detracted from a novel which had the potential to be really enjoyable. Darkly original, suspenseful, and haunting. From the gothic undertones to the fresh protagonist and ratcheting tension, Killing Jericho is a first-class thriller’ – Chris Whitaker The crime genre is filled with stories like Jericho’s – one can take a peek at the works of Val McDermid, Stuart McBride, or Helen Fields to find stories overflowing with deeply-flawed yet righteous investigators, labyrinthian plots, and murders macabre enough to turn David Fincher’s stomach (there are, this reviewer must report, some in Killing Jericho, that wouldn’t have been out of place in his seminal Se7en). It’s a credit then that Hussey, drawing upon family experience within the GRT community and history, crafts a story with a unique premise and hook, steeped in Traveller lore, from a social group sorely unexplored and woefully misunderstood by the wider UK population.

Dark, exciting, furiously-paced and full of twists, KILLING JERICHO sets the stage for a unique detective." - Alex Smith A beautifully wrought and fantastically gothic thriller that introduces a brilliant new detective quite unlike any I've met before. It left me hungry for more! - SJ WATSON, Sunday Times bestselling author of BEFORE I GO TO SLEEP Pop along to Waterstones Chelmsford where William will be signing copies of his book from 12 – 12.45pm. He will then visit HM Prison Chelmsford Library for an author talk (closed event). In partnership with Essex Libraries. Author events at the prison provide a platform for prisoners to connect with the outside world. Waterstones Chelmsford, 76 High Street, Chelmsford, CM1 1EJI absolutely bloody loved this one, I can’t even begin to tell you how damn good it is. It kept me on the edge of my seat (it was a pillow because I was in bed, but let’s just go with a seat) and just kept ramping up the tension the further into I got. I never actually guessed who the killer was (I’m still a tad bitter with myself about that because I thought I was a good detective…), and I flew through it in a couple of hours because I just couldn’t put it down, but now I’m in desperate need of book two and it’s not going to be released for a while. Coote, Robert B. (2000). "Conquest: Biblical narrative". In Freedman, David Noel; Myers, Allen C. (eds.). Eerdmans Dictionary of the Bible. Eerdmans. ISBN 978-9053565032. Scott Jericho is one of the most multi-faceted characters I have come across in recent years. He's a traveller, an ex-thug for hire, an ex-police officer, gay and capable of explosive violence. When we first meet him, he is also a recovering drug addict. A lot for one man to deal with, you might say. But wait, there's more. He is also haunted by the ghosts of three badly burned children, one of whom talks to him. It's a lot of balls to keep in the air for one character, so how does William Hussey do?

Events - Essex Book Festival

There shall nothing cast their young, nor be barren, in thy land: the number of thy days I will fulfil. I wasn’t sure if this was for me when I started reading but I was soon pulled in. We have a damaged lead character and plenty of twists and turns that keep you guessing (wrongly!) right to the end. I love a dark, brooding detective, with a big chip on his shoulder. And Jericho fits the bill superbly. And seven priests shall bear before the ark seven trumpets of rams’ horns: and the seventh day ye shall compass the city seven times, and the priests shall blow with the trumpets. We meet Scott while he is living in a trailer at his dad’s Travelling fairground. There has never been a Traveller Detective in fiction until now, and in Scott Jericho, we have an amazing main character, he is damaged by his past but has the rare skill of being able to read people with aplomb, he is a complex but ultimately loveable character, I’ve fallen for him from this, the first book in an (i hope long!) series! With all this in mind, I wanted to love Killing Jericho, but ultimately I found the overwritten pros
