The new cards are the same quality as the base game with the same high-quality artwork for the cards added to the main deck (Figures 4 + 5). The next stack of season cards is then shuffled into the deck with you now resolving the effects listed for the current season when flipping a card. This means the solo mode plays more like an actual opponent and you should treat it as such, if you need something on the board you need to rush to get it. because I’m thinking of picking up a copy soon (I know, extremely late to the party but better late than never).

Now I can play the game how it is meant to be played and this will be hitting the table a lot more solo now. You won’t always know what Nightweave is about to do, so there’s a surprise element, but for me, part of the fun in playing against bots is trying to figure out how I can use their scripts to work against them. Thus, you don’t have to worry about getting what essentially amounts to half the content of the crowdfunded edition (I’m looking at you Pearlbrook…). I will always have a sentimental place in my heart for the grumpy yet lovable rat Rugwort but from a purely mechanical perspective, this ol’ boy doesn't even play in the same division as his arachnid successor. Rarely is it the case that I consider a board game let alone a board game expansion to be worthy of the epithet essential. Pit your wits against Nightweave's in solo or two-player games, and recruit heroes of yore like Corrin Evertail himself.

That’s right, the solo opponent in Mistwood also adheres to the shifting nature of the seasons the same way as when playing a multiplayer game of Everdell! As much as I have enjoyed my plays against Rugwort, from a reviewer´s point of view I would still say no. This alone makes for such a rich, more nuanced Everdell solitaire experience compared to the old solo mode. In the case of Mistwood, however, I am more than willing to make an exception to the rule as I genuinely think this is an essential expansion if you have the slightest interest in playing Everdell solo. Each action corresponds to Nightweave’s current season and instructs the solo player regarding Nightweave´s target priority within each action.

Part of why you want bots in a game is because you don’t have enough human players to make it fully enjoyable. The rulebook is ok, a little too much writing with not enough examples, but does come with a great index if any problems come up with any parts of the expansion. When playing with plots and ploys they will sometimes offer you the opportunity to foil them by paying resources and cards which most of the time you want to do. You can build these legends for free if you already have the standard version of their card, which can be exciting, but it feels very luck-based. Nightweave does have a lot more workers than normal players so that is something to keep in mind and they are more likely to block you out of worker locations during the mid to late game.We will use anonymous information about the ad you saw and how you engaged with it to measure and improve our advertising campaigns in the future.
