Sean was described as a good guy who took his nephew under his wing, ran a local business, and roomed with a long time best friend. At the end, all of a sudden he turned into a psychopath who was responsible for two deaths, one being premeditated murder. What a disappointment to this otherwise good story. Few authors can write atmospheric, compelling, and literary mysteries as well as this author but this was a total miss. I'm still a fan and I'll be in line for her next book. In the caves, Sean made a pass at Gabby, who cried and asked him to take her home. He was embarrassed that his friends would find out and rushed out of the caves, thinking Gabby was following him. Mia says of the storm, “I’m not for a minute saying that [what happened to Finn] was a good thing, of course not. But you’re right. It did change your life, but I’m not sure it was in the way you sometimes think it was… Honestly, Kieran, I think it made you a better person. Kinder, definitely. More aware of other people, more conscious of your actions.” Do you think Mia is right? What was it about the events of the storm that prompted a change in Kieran? How did he continue to change in its aftermath? Verity doesn’t mention to the police that Brian was actually the last person to see Gabby alive twelve years ago. He’d seen Gabby at the beach after Mia left and warned her about the storm.

The young woman had stopped beachcombing and was now crouching at the edge of the surf, focusing a camera on something in the sand. She looked up at Ash’s call, then stood, her skirt flapping in the sea breeze. The authorities bring out big guns: Detective Pendlebury starts working with local police and as an outsider she can get more objective and fresher look to the things occurring in this small coastal town which help her connect with Bronte’s murder with three deaths from the past.huh. im a little perplexed with this one. while the story still bears JHs trademark storytelling, a creeping narrative with complex characters and atmospheric setting, theres just something off about the editing of this one. Trish is mom to Olivia (Liv) and Gabby, who are sisters. Plot Summary for The Survivors With Marked Spoilers The Present And the heartbroken ending made me numb. It was the most emotional story of this author and one of my favorite books of her. ( I liked the other three but I guess this one will have a special place in my heart!)

The Survivors is an intelligent and gripping novel, my third so far by Jane Harper. Much recommended! The locals and tourists of the beachside Tasmanian town, Evelyn Bay, recall the dreadful date the storm hit. Rumoured to be the worst weather in eighty years it caused widespread destructive and anguish, and worst of all, claimed three lives. For a book told from a male's POV, this sure wants to make a point about how hard it is to be a woman. It reminds us that women can't walk in the dark without feeling safe and that beautiful women will always be harassed and blamed for being beautiful. As a woman I totally get these issues, but it just felt so out of place the way it was discussed in this story. She worked too hard to make a point of it, and it grated for me because it never felt organic. Especially when she spent so much time talking about how attractive the females in this book were. Overall, it was pretty jarring and made me feel awkward.
