The Féria also features the running of bulls through the streets and a course camarguaise. As night falls on the last evening, the dramatic and romantic Roussataïo finds around a hundred horses galloping freely through the town. In the summer of 1997, Cécile joined Rémy Cointreau. Nearly two decades later, having helped with the creation of limited editions of St-Rémy, she was appointed Master Blender by her retiring predecessor Martine Pain. The Musée Estrine, also located in an 18th century hôtel particulier, has an audio-visual display about van Gogh as well as a permanent collection of modern art (there are no paintings by van Gogh himself, of course). It additionally hosts temporary exhibitions. This quiet town hits its first popular event before the summer rush of tourists even arrives, the Transhumance Festival. If you have the time, you should plan at least half a day in Les Baux de Provence. It is only 10 kms from Saint Remy.

It is a luxurious hotel with excellent decoration and modern rooms. Ideally set in the centre of town. Book your room! Hôtel de l’Image**** Saint Remigius baptizes Clovis I, by the Master of Saint Gilles, c. 1500 ( National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C.) The old part of St Remy is clustered in the middle, within the road that circles it, and the parts of the 14th century defensive wall that remain. This makes it effectively a compact village to walk through and explore, being only about 500 metres across. Take any of the roads that criss-cross the centre, you will not be disturbed by traffic as you wander through picturesque squares and alleyways. On the morning of Pentecost Day, 3,000 white merino sheep and a few goats and donkeys flood the streets of Saint-Rémy with shepherds dressed in traditional costumes. The mansion is devoted to the protection and promotion of the natural plant species of the Alpilles, most notably the almond tree.

The ruins of the Roman city of Glanum, including a triumphal arch, can still be seen on the southern outskirts of the city. If you travel from Australia or America, you could take a flight to Paris Charles de Gaulle, travel by TGV from the airport station straight to Avignon or Aix-en-Provence and rent a car from there. The closest airport is Marseille-Provence. Train Discovering Saint-Rémy-de-Provence also means admiring the magnificent landscapes of the Alpilles massif classified as "Alpilles Regional Natural Park". It was placed there in 1860 and destroyed in 1938 to enlarge the boulevard. Local people called for its replacement, which occurred in 2003.

The Alpilles museum, regional ethnological museum, housed in the Mondragon Renaissance Mistral hotel, completely renovated. The quality of light and the beauty of the local landscapes greatly inspired the painter, who completed more than 150 paintings and numerous sketches during his time there. La Nuit Etoilée – Vincent van Gogh (1889) Les Oliviers – Vincent van Gogh (1889) Les Iris – Vincent van Gogh (1889) Entrée de l’Hôpital de Saint-Rémy – Vincent van Gogh (1889) Painting of Van Gogh: “les Alpilles vues de Saint-Rémy” (the Alpilles seen from Saint-Rémy) the Estrine Museum, set out in an 18th century mansion, presents a permanent collection devoted to graphic arts and 20th and 21st centuries paintings as well as temporary exhibitions of contemporary painters. Remigius is honored in the Church of England and in the Episcopal Church on 1 October. In the nearby area, try not to miss visiting Les Baux de Provence, the Saint-Sixte Chapel in Eygalières, the Frédéric Mistral Museum in Maillane, the writer Alphonse Daudet's windmill in Fontvieille, the villages of Maussane-les-Alpilles, Mouriès and Tarascon and its castle. The town becomes a spectacular sea of sheep as some 3000 of them from all around the Alpilles, plus goats, donkeys, shepherds and sheep dogs swirl twice around the old town. Also, there are several highways and main roads which serve Saint-Rémy. The A7 autoroute, which runs down the Valley of the Rhône and connects Lyon to Marseille via Orange, is about 12km (7.5mi) east of Saint-Rémy. The A54 autoroute runs from Nîmes to Salon-de-Provence, passing through Arles, 17km (11mi) away. Finally, the A9 autoroute is 20km to the northwest and runs from Orange to Perpignan via Montpellier.
