Scar Gel has become my trusted ally in the battle against scars, and I am amazed by its transformative powers. Before I provide you the answer, let me first tell you that I've personally used Mederma for 6+ months, reviewed the original clinical study in 2012 by Dr. Draelos, and consulted the medical literature on scar treatment. I am also impressed by the long-lasting effects of this Scar Gel. It continues to work diligently, even after it has fully absorbed into the skin. This means that I can apply it once a day and trust that it will continue to deliver its healing benefits throughout the day. Side Effects: I experienced the occasional itchiness, but the more serious side effect was that the area where I applied Mederma turned slightly darker in color (discoloration)

PATIENT PREFERRED: Kelo-cote is self-drying, colorless, odorless, silky smooth, non-greasy and water resistant. Once dry, can be worn under makeup. Suitable for kids and those with sensitive skin. Works to diminish the appearance of hypertrophic scars.Scar Contractures - Most common after a burn. The skin contracts causing tightness that can restrict movement around the scar. Bayat, A., McGrouther, D. A., & Ferguson, M. W. (2003). Skin scarring. BMJ (Clinical research ed.), 326(7380), 88–92. doi:10.1136/bmj.326.7380.88 CookieYes sets this cookie to record the default button state of the corresponding category and the status of CCPA. They can sometimes be red, inflamed, itchy and even painful [3]. What is Kelo-Cote Scar Gel?

In short, this study found a statistically significant difference in scar appearance between Mederma-treated scars (test group) and non-treated scars (control group) after 4-8 weeks. On the other hand, Mederma Advanced Scar Gel is an excellent option for low risk scars like kitchen burns, minor cuts & scrapes, and small bruises. For example, people with a family history of keloids are more likely to develop keloids themselves (1/3 of people with keloids have a first-degree relative with keloids). Fine-line scars: These pink or red lines are the result of a cut or an incision, and typically take up to 2 years to fade.

In addition, I'd like you to keep in mind that everyone scars and heals differently, as genetics play a key role in how your body recovers from a wound. Monstrey S et al. Updated scar management practical guidelines: non-invasive and invasive measures. J Plast Reconstr Aesth Surg. 2014;67:1017-1025. According to the 2014 International Clinical Recommendations on Scar Management (Part 2), a highly influential research paper authored by the world's leading experts on scar treatment, there's conflicting evidence on the effectiveness of onion extract for scars. The brand has been owned by different companies in the past, including its original inventor, Advanced Bio-Technologies, followed by Enaltus, Sinclair Pharma, and Alliance Pharma.

Overall, if you areconcerned about your scar's appearance, I recommend using a silicone gel like Kelo-Cote or NewGel+ 2x a day for at least 3-6 monthsto give your skin the best chance of achieving an optimal recovery outcome following an injury or surgical procedure. Adalyser sets this cookie to determine whether there is an active session and which conversions have taken place in this session to prevent duplicates, stores a list of events in this session. Silicone gel sheets have been used since the 1980’s to help with scarring. Self-drying silicone gel is relatively new on the market but is more convenient than the sheets (sheets are often difficult to use on certain areas like joints and required more maintenance) [1]. Silicone is considered one of the the first-line prophylactic and treatment option for hypertrophic scars and keloids [6]. There aren’t any large enough high quality studies done, but there is enough evidence for a lot of health care professionals to make recommendation to use silicone. Here are a few studies (if you’re interested!):Keloid Scars: raised scars that spreads beyond the original wound (ie. the scar you end up with takes up more space on your skin than the original wound did) [2]. That's because Sinclair Pharma Plc originally acquired the non-US distribution rights from Advanced Bio-Technologies in 2011, and a few years later, Alliance Pharma Plc acquired the healthcare business of Sinclair in 2015, including its Kelo-Cote distribution rights. KELO-COTE® UV Scar Gel SPF 30 also provides protection from further damage caused by sun exposure, as a result of scar tissue not containing any melanin. UV exposure has been shown to influence the wound healing process by causing immediate UV-induced inflammation such as erythema, followed by increased skin pigmentation which may result in long term pigmentation of a fresh or recent scar. Medhi, B. et al. (2013). Efficacy and safety of an advanced formula silicone gel for prevention of post-operative scars. Dermatol Ther, 3(2): 157-167. Kelo-Cote is most effective on new or immature scars up to 2 years old. Right now there is no evidence on using Kelo-cote for older scars (over 2 years old). Is Silicone Gel Safe?
