So with this delay, the Hex jumps to warp and catches up to the Venatrix almost immediately - too soon. Too late, the crew realizes that they were drawn into a trap when they hit some sort of warp mine. The Chapter's First Company is known as the Paragons. These warriors forsake any chance to rise further in the Chapter, and it is believed that they must undergo blood rites and other hidden rituals to gain their position. On the battlefield, they are fierce hunters, focusing on the elimination of enemy leaders. [5] Paragons Of note is that the Imperial Navy no longer exists. Instead, the warships that aren't in the colors of the Bealladon Mechanicus are in the colors of the Spears, including Navy ones. Incarius remarks that this is a flagrant violation of the Codex but adds that it is forgivable considering the dire times.

This novel starts out with devastating numbers of lives lost and damages taken. Then it throws the surprising twist of the main character, and from there it’s a series of surprises, battles, and dramatic elements. It all combined beautifully into one novel. And I’m not at all ashamed to say that I was sad to see it all end. Chapter specialists known as "Druids" replace the usual Librarians, Chaplains, Techmarines and Apothecaries of Codex-compliant Chapters. These warrior-priests are always ready to harvest the gene-seed of their fallen Battle-Brothers, as well as performing the traditional duties of the standard Codex roles based on their specialist skills and esoteric abilities.Hailing from the primitive world of Nemeton, the Spears continue to embrace the tribal nature of their Homeworlds. Several tribes on Nemeton exist, such as the Novontei, Kavalei, and Arakanii. These tribes each have their own unique traditions and customs, and even upon entrance into the Chapter the Spears continue to cling to their tribal identity. Spears often call each other simply by their tribe. [4d] Most warriors bear personal heraldry on one knee plate, which is painted in a deeper blue. This heraldry usually reflects a specific campaign the Battle-Brother fought in, or the Manticora Bestia Fidelitas, a sigil representing the unity of the Adeptus Vaelarii. The Skitarii of Bellona and allied Astra Militarum regiments often also bear this sigil. Many Emperor's Spears wear cloaks made from the hides of beasts they have hunted and slain on Nemeton.

Battle of Sythaur - in this battle one of the Emperor's Spears - Faelan - received a grievous wound that disfigured his face. [4c] The rules for Emperor’s Spears give us a new Chapter Tactic (well, kind of), three new Warlord Traits, two stratagems, and three relics. The Chapter Tactic: Redden the Earth War against the Exilarchy - 999. M41 - Present. The Great Rift cuts off Elara's Veil from the wider Imperium. The Spears alongside the Celestial Lions and rest of the Adeptus Vaelarii wage a slowly losing campaign against the forces of the Exilarchy. After of century of fighting, the Exilarchy has the upper hand. [4b] Great new novel from Aaron Dembski-Bowden chronicling the story of the Emperor's Spears, a Space Marine Chapter on the edge of destruction, last watchmen over the Elara's Veil nebula. Now, the decisions of one man, Amadeus Kaias Incarius of the Mentor Legion, will determine the Chapter's fate… For her actions, Brêac gives Anuradha that power sword once it's been reconsecerated. They don't need a human sized power sword, and she's proven worthy. She tries to turn it down but he doesn’t take no for an answer. The new rulers of the planet, officers selected from the Adamants by the Spears, will need to found a new legacy of rule so have no need of an artifact from the traitor regime.

Incarius is accompanied by three Helots, highly augmented special agents of the Mentors that operate as data analysts and assistants to their masters in combat and out. Anuradha is the Helot Secundus on this mission. She was trained on the outskirts of the Mentor fleet and thus has a little experience bending the rules. She served as Amadeus' sole Helot on a previous deployment. The Helot Tertius is Tyberia, a young doctrinaire Helot on her first deployment after being trained at the heart of the fleet. The Helot Primus, the most senior on the mission, is Kartash. He is stooped by age and a veteran of many deployments. The main Spear character is Brêac of the Vargantes tribe, Lord of the Third Warhost. He embodies the Chapter’s defiance and their barbarian values. who has forgone the chance to lead his brethren into battle. As a result they are usually used as champions who take out enemy commanders in battle. [6]

Anurahda is not a Space Marine. Not even close, but she is the Helot Secundus to Amadeus Kaias Incarius. Which is basically a pretty or nice way of calling her his thrall or slave. She’s an augmented human, and while she is nothing like the Space Marines, she (and her companions) does a surprisingly decent job of keeping up. The Emperor’s Spears are, for the most part, a Codex-compliant Chapter, with some exceptions. Rather than fighting as companies, the Chapter tends to operate as autonomous war hosts, often ranging far from Nemeton in defense of Elara’s Veil. The Chapter Master of the Emperor's Spears is known as the High King while Captain's are known as Warhost Lords. [5]The book starts with Anuradha Daaz and her master Vádhan of the Emperor's Spears sitting within the Spear's fortress. The events of the book are far in the past. The Spears of the Emperor fight against the forces of the Exilarchy, but the situation is worse every day. They haven't yet threatened Nemeton, the Spears' homeworld, but it seems inevitable.
