It doesn't sound like an amp in a room, but it's not a million miles off either, it surprised me a bit. Appropriately, given that the unit is designed to fit all popular guitar models, there’s a sound for pretty much everyone here, from crystal clean chime through to high-gain weapons-grade metal tones. The presets reference the sounds of a ’65 Twin plus a compressor, a ’65 Deluxe, a tweed Twin, a Vox AC30, a ’65 Deluxe driven by an Ibanez TS808 Tube Screamer, a Marshall Super Lead, a Mesa Dual Rectifier, a Fender Bassbreaker, Friedman BE-100 and a Bogner Uberschall.

Case in point, the Mustang Micro, a very, very small guitar amplifier and effect modeling system that features a selection of tones from the Mustang series modeling amps. Consider however the non-producer musicians who just want to get their sound into GarageBand or whatever those poor souls on Windows use, and the FMMA could be ideal for those use cases. The limit of five presets is actually freeing for the effects – changing parameters dependent on model choice including reverb level, delay level, delay time, trem speed, flanger depth and Vibratone speed. It works great for acoustics with pickups not for silent practice but to use as a DI to a DAW via USB, although in that case you do need a much longer USB cable. Their target audience has been the home musician who didn’t need mountains of power, who wanted decent sound and a number of built in effects without having to go into massive debt.I have to declare that I am one of those old fools who find no substitute for tubes in the preamp or power sections and who believes that louder is more better, at least once I have learned my parts.

Fender Mustang Micro’s 1/8” stereo headphone output allows you to use your favourite wired headphones or earbuds and silently play with a responsive touch and feel, without off-putting latency. If you’re new to six strings or are the parent of a wannabe teenage guitar hero, this would be my first purchase after the guitar. I've spent far too long sitting playing unplugged in the living room, partly due to keeping the noise down with a young child in bed and partly due to the inconvenience of setting up and moving about even a small practice amp.

The Mustang Micro also knows when to play to its strength and make the most of the stereo headphones output and panning delays both left and right. I recently acquired a Gretsch White Falcon and I'd like to be able to get great clean tones through headphones without using my Catalyst 60 or Vox Mv50.

The effects are adjustable to some extent and the following table documents how the modify buttons work with each effect. The breakthroughs and innovations that we uncover lead to new ways of thinking, new connections, and new industries. You can quite easily suspend your disbelief and imagine you're cranking the guitar through a decent size rig without the obvious compromises you get in tone with a small practice amp.

I have to thank Fender Musical Instruments Corp for publishing the charts used in their online manual for the device. But I did enjoy using Mustang Micro when I had it for its simplicity and decent sound on the go, late night practise. I don't often try to learn other people's songs, but when I do I use the Mustang while going through the videos on YouTube. It’s an incredibly powerful and easy to use tool that is remarkably inexpensive that sounds really darn good. This dongle comes very close to the real thing, so much so that I’d wager you couldn’t tell the difference in the middle of a mix.

It's ideal for any player from beginner to pro, making it quick and easy to get great tones when jamming at home or on the go. Track is the same easy enough for, uh, a right angle, like a jazz master front facing Jack, um, like that jazz master there go out like that for a Stratocaster cause like, This would be more like a right angle cable that doesn’t work on. Connect the Mustang Micro using USB-C into a Mac or PC and you'll be able to record those incredible tones directly into your favourite software! There’s also a handy wallet sized card that details all the setting options and so long as you can read small print, it is very useful.
