Over a month of use, we found this best for nomadic working and weekends away - in other words, all those times when you’re not sure if there’s going to be great espresso within easy reach. Created for travel-hungry espresso lovers, the Wacaco Nanopresso is everything you need to take rich, balanced espresso everywhere you go. Weighing a mere 336g and just over 15 cm tall, this is the most portable espresso maker on the market. Okay, now we’re talking. With the WACACO Picopresso the manufacturer has seriously raised its game by producing a device that’ll appeal to coffee professionals. I should know – I really want one of these. The Barista Kit allows you to make a double espresso with your Nanopresso! Perfect for sharing with a friend, enjoying double the coffee, or making any wide range of cafe favorites from lattes to cappuccinos.

The kit also includes an additional 8g coffee filter basket to give you a total of two 8g baskets and two 16g baskets. An improved tamp is included, making tamping easier and more consistent than ever with the Nanopresso. In look, price, and experience, the Nanopresso couldn’t be further than the top of the range espresso machines we’ve reviewed. And yet the taste is almost on par. It is more of a faff, it does involve boiling water and finding a flat spot if you’re outside, but the end result is seriously impressive. What’s so unique and innovative about the Nanopresso is how you create sufficient pressure for espresso by continuously pumping a pop-out piston. You’ll run into some resistance when you’re using the pump piston, but you’re not going to dislocate your shoulder, or anything. If you feel like the basic Nanopresso is a little too limiting and wish you could prepare a double shot, the Barista Kit will be right up your alley. Finally, the Nanopresso is less expensive than the Picopresso. However, if you want to brew double shots, the cost of the Barista Kit to do this will significantly reduce those savings. I’ve been using the Nanopresso for over 5 months now, I’d say I’ve made close to 500 espressos in that time and never experienced any issue with loss of pressure. That was until last week (over the Christmas period) I was making family members drinks and during that time I noticed that the initial pumps required to begin the extraction were increasing.

Nanopresso Review -The Best Portable Espresso Coffee Wacaco Nanopresso Review -The Best Portable Espresso Coffee

Cleaning the WACACO Nanopresso is a very straightforward affair, especially if you take care of it after every use. All the parts can be rinsed off, so you can just use the leftover water in your camping kettle if there’s no running water at hand. Some pre-grounds espresso blends are a little bit too fine for the Nanopresso. I got a bag of Costa grinds and they were a little on the fine side. It’s been a while since I bought pre-ground but if I remember correctly the Lavazza espresso is ground just right. If you really want to persist with the Illy ground coffee you could either try adding 15g instead of 16g that might help. You’ll notice that the portafilter does actually tamp the coffee deeper once it’s screwed on tightly (it sort of self tamps) So by having a gram less, it may just improve the flow. You could also remove the small silicone piece from the spring in the portafilter (non-pressurized mode) this will also help.

As much as I already love the WACACO Nanopresso, it’d probably be a good idea to see how it fares in comparison to some other portable espresso makers. WACACO Nanopresso vs Minipresso Do they know what they’re talking about? Why not do a grinder review? I’m sure it would be much appreciated.

So, my advice is to take a look at the small orange cross on the underside (while it’s under the tap) and make sure that it’s moving during pumping, if it is, just keep pumping the water through and hopefully your unit will flush whatever is in there though. The timing of this question is perfect and I might be able to help you out here regarding your issue. Carrying Case - All accessories fit neatly into a travel-ready container the same size of the original Nanopresso by fitting the water tank, adapter ring and outlet head together. This product includes: Take your portable espresso game to the next level with the Nanopresso Barista Kit. This accessory bundle for the Wacaco Nanopresso enables you to pull full double shots, gives you extra coffee filter baskets for rapid shot pulling, and puts it all in a travel-ready container. The fact Wacaco’s patented pressure system can achieve that 18 bar pressure is a serious game-changer for hand-powered espresso, and it means the Nanopresso is able to compete in flavor against the top end of the market. The Wacaco Nanopresso comes fully assembled, so no setup time is required—a major perk compared to the many coffee makers that take several minutes to put together. Design: Sturdy, compact, and travel-friendly Simon. I received the Nanopresso and I’m impressed, just as you are. If anything, it may be working ‘too well’. I’ll explain: The primary benefit of the kit is the ability to pull double shots of rich, balanced espresso. This is enabled by three accessories: (1) two 16g coffee filter baskets, (2) an adapter to fit the larger baskets, and (3) an extended 140ml water reservoir.

As I already mentioned, I was prepared to struggle with the Nanopresso at first. However, I got great results on the first try! I decided to use a medium roast espresso blend from one of my favorite independent roasters. I’m really familiar with this coffee and how it tastes from an espresso machine. Of course, pressure is just one of many parameters involved in espresso preparation. Grind size, water temperature and tamping are equally important. One thing to be aware of is that the Nanopresso features a pressurized portafilter, which means that you won’t have to worry as much about grind size. As we mentioned earlier, the Picopresso brew emblematic creamy shots with rich crema. For drink quality alone, this is remarkable given the price. On those terms, it represents incredible value for money. Wacaco Picopresso Vs Wacaco NanopressoIt’s far from a plug-in-and-go job, but the Nanopresso actually had us asking why coffee had become so complicated, when all you really need for a wake-up call is a small and mighty piece of kit like this. I used a 1Presso Mini Grinder adjusted for finer than indicated by 1Presso for espresso. Dark roast. Preheated with boiling water. Here’s the odd thing….possibly: It does NOT matter if I tamp “moderately hard”, leave room for the porta filer to finish tamping as you suggested, or tamp VERY hard…. the stream seems ideal: Steady and strong while pumping, with no dripping. Since not overextracted, the coffee does not have a bitter taste. If you have any questions or need help, please drop us a line on [email protected] or give us a call and we’ll happily help.
