Four of the figures are exclusive to this set, and Benny is only available otherwise in the pricier Sea Cow; you've got to love Wyldstyle's outfit. I'm in what looks to be a permanent dark age, but I still enjoy writing about the stuff related to our site, even if not LEGO itself. Man, I want to take this to show and tell but I can't figure out how to carry it on the subway to work. This and the blue and grey hues of the model itself combine to make the instructions rather dark, as best seen on the introduction page; however, I didn't encounter any colour confusion during the build.

I was delighted to see how the radar dishes are attached to the 2x2-2x2 brackets using an aircraft wheel hub, which effectively acts as a stud reverser here. The element selection of course plays a big part too, such as the 'loudspeakers' and the ribbed jet engines, and the stickered parts heavily reference designs and fonts from that era. As soon as I saw the movie I wanted this set, good to know it seems to be a decent build (haven’t had a chance to build mine yet).The sticker sheet is just outstanding, as it also includes sticker versions of classic space computer screens and buttons. The old-school space control decos are recreated as a long decal atop a pair of finishing pieces, so your lego minifigs can control the ship the way vintage space ships were meant to be controlled.

If you posted links to neo-classic space (which I still enjoy going to, btw), then you don't have a point about ignoring LUGNET because of the 'archaic nature' of it.In the real world, Finn was flying Benny's Spaceship around playing with it, when his father, the Man Upstairs shows up, and gets not too happy from what he saw when his son was playing with his Lego collection. One wing on each is folded up and they then clip into place on either wing of the main craft, perfectly completing its shape. The gaps between the body and the wing flanges are a little unsightly - exposing the Technic bricks as they do - and not altogether necessary, since the flanges do not need to lift beyond horizontal and indeed will flap around if the ship is inverted. The finished vehicle looks nice in profile without a minifig inside, but is a lopsided design with its oversized exhaust. The big cockpit canopy can open to ninety degrees, revealing a spacious interior with seating for three, even allowing for hoodies, airtanks or pieces of resistance.To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Details inside the craft begin to be added, including the traditional bank of controls using 2X2 45° slopes with differing prints on them. The small windows on the side speeders are just not quite the right color for that part: It's much more useful in Trans-Smoke or Trans-Red. The build kicks off with three small craft; two of which are the same - a little one-person craft in Classic Space colours.

I'm at least pleased to report the engraving quality is a lot better than the one I got in an earlier LEGO Movie set. Once you've built the spaceship you can have hours of fun roleplaying with the characters Benny, Robo Emmet, Space Wyldstyle, Robo Pilot and Astro Kitty, as these are all included. Again, the black flick-fire mounts look a little out of place; I think dark or light bluish grey would have been a better choice. You can _sorta_ make it out on the red PoR, but it's less obvious because that's formed in a true opaque plastic.The "foil-covered' PoR is made with a type of plastic that has a transparent/translucent base that caries a solid pigment rather than a dye-based one. Her cute face peers out of the rectangular visor of a Blue spacesuit and best of all, the 1X3 arch that makes up her body has a little Classic Space logo on one side!
