This book is the story of Etta who has had a traumatic childhood due to being brought up in a neglectful home where she is molested by her mothers partners. A freak bus accident and payout gives her the opportunity to move away and distance herself from her past yet skews her perception of sex. The accident also provides her with a gift/curse of seeing the aura or energies surrounding people. The heroine was brutally raped and sadomized (anal rape), and only after max 2 weeks she had sex with the male protagonist... Only 2 weeks??? I don’t speak about her mental health, I know after all she suffered, she did need it; but physically it’s not possible to be able to have sexual intercourse only 2 weeks after being brutally raped! Supporters of the Endeavor replica, having assembled an outstanding team of shipwrights, riggers, caulkers and sail makers, began looking for another project. There were so many things about this book that I just loved. Part of why this is my favorite author is that I always end up loving her main character, and all the side characters she brings with them. The humor, snark but not too much snark, and the maturity to the heroines are a favorite of mine.

I do think when she hit 18 it was kinda abrupt with how the MMC and her got together shortly thereafter and he brought up the kink. Even though there was a lot of sex in this book and they were very sexually compatible together, I never got swept away in their passion and romance. It just all felt very comfortable. Not to say I didn’t believe in it because I definitely did. I think that’s why I gave it 4⭐️, it was the writing. Speaking of, the writing is such where it got better the further into the book you got. It was a bit weak in the beginning but then got stronger and 🤌🏻. Full disclosure: I’ve been in a book slump. I’ve started and stopped several books because I just couldn’t get into them. Either the writing was awful, the plot was lame, or in one instance, a character had single family home in Manhattan (not a brownstone) and while I can suspend reality for many things, single family homes in Manhattan is not one of them. Ash, Marco, Vera, Cole, even Freddy were fantastic. Holy shit, housekeepers and bodyguards are usually just there or fluff but these characters brought dimension/depth. I want books for them even though it would make no logical sense lol.Caravels, not surprisingly, were carvel planked- edge to edge, with caulking in the seams. They proved to be stout and seaworthy. Oh," it said, voice low and almost...apologetic. "Oh, Tom . Well, that wasn't the plan. Hold on, let me―" and it started using its tentacles to―Tom didn't even know, but he watched in disgusted fascination as the tentacles passed over the wet area and seemed to absorb the fluid. Juliet is now a prisoner in a gilded cage. There's no reasoning as to why she's still alive and being treated so well. Yet it's more than she's ever had. And as the months progress, she flourishes in this new environment even if she is weary of Maximo.
