Refer to the Krytox™ Performance Lubricants Product Overview or the Krytox™ Lubricants Product Selection Guide to learn more.

The Krytox™ GPL 2EX lubricants are formulated using unique anti-rust additives. This grease is similar to Krytox™ GPL 22X series greases, but contains a non-nitrite anti-corrosion additive. The Krytox™ GPL 22X series contains sodium nitrite corrosion an anti-wear inhibitor; it also improves load-carrying performance and is ideal for corrosive environments. Typical applications are automotive bearings, sealed pump bearings, electric motor bearings, and general-purpose bearings. While Krytox™ grease will not react with the other greases or cause decomposition or any hazardous reactions, it will not stop the other lubricant from breaking down from heat and oxidation. Therefore, it is not recommended to mix Krytox™ lubricants with any non-perfluoropolyether (PFPE) oil or grease. Characteristics of Krytox™ Performance LubricantsThe reason, I think, that we’ve adopted some specialized lubricants is due to how precise and small scale these switches are. A small change can make a big impact on the switch properties so we need lubricants that are precise and well measured. The Krytox brand, having a wide range of easily discernable viscosities has become quite popular and therefore used by quite a few in our community. It has so far stood the test of time compared to other brands and so is often recommended. GPL 205 Grade 0 is a military-grade high-viscosity lubricating grease. Perfect for stabilizers, linear switches, and high-tactility switches. Krytox™ lubricants can be used in applications where nonflammability, oxygen compatibility, materials compatibility, high-temperature stability, and resistance to aggressive chemicals are requirements. Industries include: As a general rule of thumb, lower viscosity lubricants are used on tactile switches, whereas higher viscosity lubricants are used on linear switches. This is often desirable because you don’t want to cover up the tactility of a tactile switch. You want to keep that exposed while smoothing away some imperfections. On the other hand, a linear switch may not have as much character as a tactile switch and perhaps you might feel the imperfections a bit more as well, and so often you want a very smooth experience while not worrying too much about masking the original switch qualities. DIN 3536: Lubricant for gas valves in indoor installations, gas distribution and gas transportation pipe lines.

It’s better to start with a little less lube, try it out, and then add more as necessary. If you overlube from the start you will waste lube when you have to wipe it off and it will take more time. As you get the hang of it you’ll become more consistent in your application. List of switch lubricating guides Products from the Krytox family are often graded for their viscosity by number with the lower the number the less viscous it is. So for example 203 is less viscous than 204 which is in turn less viscous than 205 and so on. Krytox™ fluorinated oils are a series of low molecular weight, fluorine end-capped, homopolymers of hexafluoropropylene epoxide. The polymer chain is completely saturated and contains only carbon, oxygen, and fluorine; hydrogen is not present. Krytox™ Performance Lubricants ApplicationsThe feel of this switch is quite smooth throughout of course due to the lube job, but as someone who prefers double-stage springs, sometimes I did feel that the switch felt a little bit slower than I would have wanted, but unfortunately, that is just the nature of single-stage springs. I would also like to point out that while the lube job is very consistent across all my switches, some might say that there is too much lube making it feel a bit mushy compared to other switches that you might have lubed yourself. If you aren’t a fan of the lube job, it could be quite a hassle to have to clean off each switch and lube them yourself, so I would have also liked to have seen a dry version of the Moon V2s sold for those who want to do it themselves. This lube comes in a container which can hold upto 20 grams of lube so the container may not look full. Non-flammable, non-silicone, high-temperature stable (up to 355°F), fluorinated polymer lubricant. Krytox 205g0 was designed by The Chemours Company FC, LLC to provide a non-migrating grade 0 grease viscosity for ease of application. 1ml is approx. 2g Most of these lubricants are pretty specialized. They were not designed for the keyboard community but we’ve adapted them to our needs. This means they are generally harder to find than your run of the mill Superlube or other household lubricants. This is slowly changing however, with more shops starting to sell moderately portioned lubricants in varying viscosities and even some specialized blends created within our community that are performing quite well! Bag lubing is another way of applying the lubricant but one that I only use for the springs. The idea is that you throw whatever you want to lubricate into a bag, make sure it has some air to allow free movement of the parts, and then shake it until the lubricant is evenly dispersed.
