He takes a few classes in yoga massage and he is turned from Ben Foster - nice guy, but ordinary guy, with unexciting job, and nice wife – into “Big Ben”, world-class stud, mingling (and more) with A-listers. This is a classic fairy-tale that happens to be real. It’s probably every man’s dream, at one time or another.

As a well paid gigolo, Ben’s bank account swells and he acquires a taste for the good life, while his wife, Kelly, is both suspicious that Ben provides more than just massage to his wealthy patrons and is being drawn into a world that will eventually destroy him. And she’s right. Jim Perkins, 44 from Bradwell aka Ben Foster has spoken about his life as a gigolo. Picture: Neil Didsbury (Image: Archant) I don’t read soft porn, especially from a man’s point of view. There is plenty of flesh and genitals in this book- horrifying and interesting, all at the same time. The Committee”, women with titles and/or money, make him over, a la My Fair Lady. Ben goes along with it all, because the money is good, it’s fun and he does want his children to have advantages and education. Jim Perkins aka Ben Foster has spoken about his life as a gigolo. He claimed he was given a phone and was driven around to large houses to provide his "treatments" to women. What I loved most about it, is that it's one hundred percent real. Ben Foster invites the reader into his life as a male sex worker, giving us every detail of his alluring and complicated story. And what man wouldn’t be tempted by these gorgeous, experienced women who show him a world where sex is as sophisticated, daring and rich as the lives his new partners live.

So by total chance, one day Ben meets his clients’ mum and the “committee: a circle of her rich and bored friends. Gigolo is an entertaining romp, supposedly the story of Ben Foster,a care worker and part time masseur catapulted into the world of servicing rich and famous women for money. I say supposedly as while perhaps Mr Foster did once work as a Gigolo parts of the tale are highly unlikely, not least his lovely wife barely batting an eyelid as new cars and a whole new wardrobe of designer clothes appear, hubby fails to come home from work etc after a life of scraping by. The sex scenes are more titillating than pornographic with a variety of "interests" portrayed, seemingly with a variety of well-known public figures. He said while the core story of the book is true, he admitted that some details had been "embellished" by the ghost writer to make it more entertaining - particularly that he was married at the time.

It also grossed me out he never used condoms and how many women he had oral sex with. This book does not skimp on details of his exploits. I guess my nurse brain was constantly cycling herpes, chlamydia, HIV! And nobody asked him if he was clean. Ewe. Just ewe. Going from a low-paid job looking after boys that really needed his attention, with his spare time devoted to massage. The more I read, the less I believed, though: for someone who portrays himself (or is portrayed by his ghost-writer... or should that be author?) as an innocent, naive, working-class lad with little education or savoir faire, not only is he self-reflective throughout this narrative, but he's also pretty spot-on in his analyses of class, economic disparities and social inequalities.

When he inherits a sizeable windfall from his gran, Ben decides to qualify as a masseur. Soon he is introduced to the mysterious ‘committee’ – a group of female socialites with one thing in common: they adore sex and don’t mind paying for it. I personally thought this would be my life for the rest of it, this was it. But in their mind they wanted to have a bit of fun and I was their piece of meat." Ben doesn’t describe himself in much detail but from the way women reacted to him, I picture him as tall, well built and good-looking. Ben does share more of his internal life with us, and he comes across as positive, sincere, caring and someone who is adept at examining life. Second, I was rather amazed how easy it was for this guy to get so wrapped up in wealth and forget his kids like he did. I’ve seen a lot of cheating losers in this world, but he’s a father as well. I’m sure he justified his being gone constantly, his wife putting the kids to bed alone and keeping the house up while working at a laundry mat herself. It was about money and moving his family up to a life they’d only dreamed. With a small inheritance from his gran, Ben qualifies as a masseur and is introduced to the mysterious ‘committee’ – a group of society women with one thing in they adore sex and don’t mind paying for it. They replaced me for a younger model, from what I gather. Everything was under their rule," Mr Perkins said. What I loved most about it, is that is one hundred percent real. Ben Foster invites the reader into his life as a male sex worker, giving us every detail of his alluring and complicated story. He now works as a carer, but supplements his income by providing his services to female clients, mostly from around Norwich and Attleborough. OMG! Where do you start, you would think this book is made up, but the main performer in this book Ben Foster has made it blatantly clear this is based on actual events.
