Hickman è stata la cosa migliore che è capitata alla Marvel negli ultimi anni, tra Secret Warriors, Avengers e questo Fantastic Four. There is even a Spider-Man scene about Uncle Ben that is genuinely touching, despite the excessive retreading and retelling of that moment and that alone is a Herculean feat. Events from Fantastic Four are informed by what occurs in FF and vice-versa, and the paperback collections individually only provide part of the story. Reading further, though, one arrives at the real conclusion, which is nothing short of spectacular and surely conforms to the expectations of all who’ve been following the plot.

Grievng, the surviving members of the Fantastic Four dissolve the team – but from its ashes rises the Future Foundation! If you pay any kind of attention at all to comic books, then you probably heard the news around early 2011 or so that a founding member of the FF was going to die. this sets off a fairly complex storyline with lots of things going on in the background with maneuvering by Doom, Moleman, The Wizard, and several groups including the Inhumans and the Atlanteans. On the contrary, the plots seem to be mostly his own, but it's clear that other series published at the same time as the issues that make up this omnibus were influencing things in ways that were somewhat trivial, but which nonetheless had an impact on the flow of the story. It provides a glimpse into the scope of what Hickman is setting up in his major story arc, and how far back those seeds originate.

By using the Web site, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agreed to be bound by the Terms and Conditions. Marvel cleverly closes out this volume of the omni with the sort of rising tension that'll make you want to start volume two straight away! Well, turns out this is one of the most impressive collections of comics I have ever read in any genre. This amount includes seller specified domestic postage charges as well as applicable international postage, dispatch, and other fees. Hickman manages to juggle multiple characters, gripping giant storylines and death and introduction of old and new characters. The fate of the Kree, Inhumans and the Four Cities, the alternate reality Reeds, last stands by Doom and Galactus(! The bit that made me well up was when The Thing was at his lowest, he was hurting emotionally really badly, but he had no way to release his anger, so what does he do! Everything is done very professionally with this company and always lets you know every step of the process.

This is my nth time reading this run and I still freaking love it, one of the finest marvel comics ever. because there are so many characters in this book that you wanted to see in a comic and they're all in there (i'm including volume 2 in this). And as the Fantastic Four fight the War of the Four Cities, Reed Richards assembles a band of genius youngsters.

That's the crazy part: after all the great ideas Hickman puts out here, you realize this is only the first half of his run. Reed Richards will prove to be his strongest character throughout this first series and moving on to the main one. There's a major character death in the last quarter of this omni - I'm being vague, but y'all know who I'm talking about - and his death honestly feels a bit unexpected. But I think the charm, the camp, and the whole hearted nature of the Fantastic Four elevate this story to a whole other level.

Hickman is king here, god knows how he managed to fit so much character development in between a family, friends and enemies and still pull off one of the best reads ever! But putting all that aside, I just never got into the groove of the stories Hickman was telling, nor the pace at which he told them. The Slings and Arrows Graphic Novel Guide doesn't care where you've been, where you're going or where you're located. Just look to the present, as the Krakoan Era of X-Men he kicked off is still going strong for a few years now, even as he has departed the books. But it took me about three months to read this (comparatively thin) omnibus because I just didn't care about so many of the storylines.
