Description

Its smooth, putty-like consistency is easy to mix and use. Self-hardening (No Baking); has a working time of about two hours, cures hard in 24 hours to a semi-gloss finish. Adheres to nearly any surface and is great for sculpting, embellishing, bonding and filling most anything. Conversions are a hallmark of almost all models created in the 28 style. Rather than building a model directly as shown on the box, the creator changes it, sometimes beyond recognition, to suit their vision and narrative. This endeavour has been made easier over the years, due to the vast range of model kits that Games Workshop produces, most of which are roughly the same scale, allowing one to mix together kits, or "kitbash." However, after building enough models, even kitbashing can feel limiting. At this point, the next logical step in the creative process is to try sculpting with modeling putty. While this comes with a learning curve and can be time consuming, it provides an unparalleled level of flexibility and freedom when creating models. In this article, I want to talk about how I approach sculpting, provide some tips for news sculptors, and talk about the strengths and weaknesses of different types of modeling putty. WARNING – H317 May cause an allergic skin reaction. H320 Causes eye irritation. CA Proposition 65 DANGER – contains crystalline silica known to be a human carcinogen via respiratory route. *Applies only to the cured clay product when sanded or abraded in some manner to create airborne dust.

What is Apoxie Sculpt? Apoxie Sculpt is a mixture between regular Polymer Clay and Epoxy Resin, it combines the best properties of these two to create the perfect substance to use to create our electroforming base piece. Due to the ability to sand cured Milliput, it is ideal for creating armour plates. Finer details can then be added in later sculpting sessions, using green stuff. Once again, we can be rather plain and simple with our answer, yes, Apoxie Sculpt is heat resistant! It gives us the freedom to combine our resin models with the Apoxie Sculpt to add fine details, or to revolutionize the design altogether! To answer this question, we can be very short, no, you don’t need gloves to work with Apoxie Sculpt. While there is no substitute for practice, having the right tools can help immensely when starting to sculpt. OH! So that means that I should mix it up and let it “rest” awhile before trying to make beads or stamp into it! Learning to sculpt is time-consuming, but it is ultimately a very satisfying and fulfilling process. When I started my blog, Between the Bolter and Me, I had never used modeling putty or sculpted anything. It has taken me seven years to reach my current level, and to create the models seen in this article. The process was filled with many ups and downs, but I have grown tremendously as a hobbyist as a result.

Apoxie® Sculpt is ready to use; working time is 1- 3 hours. Shape as desired. Smooth or texture with a wet finger, brush, Q-tip or sculpting tool. Self-hardens (NO?BAKING); 24 hour full cure. Problems start occurring however when the flexible nature of silicone is put to the test, if the silicone bends the Apoxie Sculpt loses its adhesion and comes off in most cases. Therefore, wearing gloves isn’t necessary for health reasons, but it is a matter of personal preference! If, for whatever reason, the idea of Apoxie Sculpt sounds attractive, but you’re looking for something different, it’s important to know about the alternatives that are out there! Each of the modeling putties described above have their own unique characteristics that lend themselves to different applications when sculpting. By mixing two different epoxy putties together, you can create a hybrid putty that has characteristics of both. For instance, if you mix equal parts green stuff and Apoxie sculpt you get a putty that handles similarly to greenstuff but has the hardness of Apoxie Sculpt after curing. You can combine green stuff and Milliput to get a similar effect.A Sister of Sigmar Matriarch, with segments sculpted using green stuff, milliput, and apoxie sculpt. Learning to sculpt can be a long and challenging process, but also a very rewarding one. If you are just starting out, following three simple principles can make the process less daunting: Create new colors of Apoxie Sculpt by mixing any of the part 'A' colors of Apoxie Sculpt together, then add an equal amount of part 'B' (all part A's are the same, and all part B's are the same) If you’re looking to get it at your local hardware store looking for a plumber’s putty, or a plumber’s epoxy is a strong bet.

Everyone has their own taste and you may end up liking an alternative more than Apoxie Sculpt, so let’s take a look at the possible substitutes! Create new colors of Apoxie Sculpt by mixing any of the part ‘A’ colors of Apoxie Sculpt together, then add an equal amount of part ‘B’ (all part A’s are the same, and all part B’s are the same) Apoxie Sculpt is a non-toxic material and in theory shouldn’t do any harm to your body, because it’s non-toxic you can also safely use Apoxie Sculpt around children!Milliput functions very similarly to clay when exposed to water. As you add water, Milliput begins to produce silt, and will eventually dissolve if too much is added. This characteristic makes it a great putty to fill in seams on models, since you can paint the putty into the seams with an old paint brush. By adding small amounts of water you can also make very smooth surfaces.

Can be seamlessly feathered before set-up with a paint brush and the use of Aves® Safety Solvent for fine details; use water for smoothing large surface areas of your project. Every feature you’d want to create your models allows for true artistic freedom, which is something every electroforming artist should be chasing! Applying heat can also dramatically increase the speed of the curing process, without influencing the strength of the final result.
