Description

Bill (Robert Hays) and Molly (Shelley Long) have moved their family from the northeast to the desert southwest. Fed up and angry, he sets up a trap to catch Santa and to steal all of the presents, ruining Christmas for all. His parents spoil him rotten every Christmas with presents but Bradley does not care about that, he wants presents from Jolly Old Saint Nick and this year he is going to take what he feels he deserves. All in all, this is one holiday book that will help kids laugh themselves into being good…and won’t worry them about trying to be good even though it is so hard. Having been disappointed by the first illustrator, we set about finding an alternative, only to have a similar thing happen again — and again — and again!

Actually, I'm no prude who never cusses, but my kids aren't old enough to judge who/what/when/where, yet, so I like to avoid it (or at least an overabundance of it). The ending is comical and his commitment to his task was fun to watch played out in the illustrations and in the writing. He worked on it for a year, until by Christmas Eve his parents had moved out of the house because it was so dangerous. Bradley is every spoiled and demanding child you have ever come across, all rolled into one nasty package that his parents are terrified of. If this book had language geared towards older kids who no longer think about the man in the red suit, then the dark humor and the lack of a positive resolution or lesson learned would just be funny. He's selfish and greedy, and every year his wealthy father hires a team of secretaries to type up Bradley's huge Christmas list for Santa Claus. Rosie is currently working on a new solo show, Absolute Solo II, and a contemporary interpretation of Romeo+ Juliet.

If a tripwire moved, the bead it was tied to would be pulled off the see-saw, causing the opposite end to drop and close the circuit on the ear-piercing alarm. Maybe it's because of the exaggerated humor, maybe it's because Bradley is so very bad, or maybe it's because it's satisfying to see Bradley get his just desserts, whatever the reason, the book provides an enjoyable reading experience. Michael has worked in UK regional theatre since 1999 and came from the Grand Opera House in Belfast to join Mayflower Theatre. Another reason for choosing Macmillan was that I had a particular illustrator in mind for the book and Macmillan editor, Suzanne Carnell, had proposed the same illustrator. I love the way that Poly has applied patterns to the carpets of the Bartleby mansion, giving the illustrations a lovely sense of depth and richness. For the following Christmas, he decides to set a trap for Santa so that he can take all of the presents on Santa's sleigh. The no-holds-barred humor – both author and illustrator are not afraid to pull out all the stops with Bradley’s inventive weapons – is refreshingly funny.
