Description

I've read some reviews where people have showed their distaste with a Vignetting effect along the top of the screen. Available since 2020, the LG UltraGear 34GP83A-B is a WQHD curved gaming monitor with 144 hz standard refresh rate (160 Hz overclock) compliant with the VESA DisplayHDR 400 specifications, also sporting both G-Sync and FreeSync Premium support. And, while the 3440 x 1440 resolution on the UltraGear 34GP83A-B doesn’t quite match that of 4K (3840 x 2160), it’s not too far off – and it simply means you can get better gaming performance, especially with lower-end PC cards. The VRR only works up to 144Hz, so if you want to use the overclockable 160Hz, you need to use a fixed refresh rate instead.

Viewing angles are decent, fine for sharing content casually or co-op gaming; however, there's some loss of image accuracy when viewing from the side, so it might not be ideal if you need to share work that requires precision. In terms of VRR support, the LG is compatible with FreeSync and G-SYNC, while the Dell has native G-SYNC support and FreeSync compatibility. The LG On Screen Display software is excellent and in addition to it I also loaded the current panel drivers from LG. TLDR: If you're looking for a "budget" ultrawide with majority of the features of what's on the market. Combined, these features have a huge impact when gaming, especially when playing frantic, fast-paced modern titles.

There are different types of matte and glossy coatings, each of which has its own advantages and drawbacks. The 34-inch LG UltraGear 34GP83A-B features a Nano IPS display that achieves a response time of 1 ms GtG while providing a visual experience compliant with the VESA DisplayHDR 400 specification. This monitor has native FreeSync support that works over DisplayPort and HDMI, but over HDMI, it only works from 48 to 85Hz, and the connection is unstable at times. For day-to-day use in Windows 10, you can comfortably have multiple windows and apps open at once, and the comfy curve of the screen results in less strain when viewing it from its edges. The Nano IPS display achieves 1ms GTG TN-level speeds and ultra-fast refresh rates, while mesmerizing with a rich, vivid picture, enhancing the intensity and purity of on-screen colors. However, its low peak HDR brightness, poor black levels, and unergonomic stand may be a dealbreaker. The Gigabyte is better for productivity as it has a few extra office features built-in, including a keyboard video and mouse switch (KVM), which allows you to switch between two sources with one set of input devices. The LG 34GP950G-B seems to be a newer/upgraded version of the other two, although I don't know if the upgrades are worth it. I'm mostly writing this to inform other Linux users who use Nvidia GPUs my experience with the UltraGear, and not "hey look at me I'm a Linux user".

Information about the available connectivity ports, slots and interfaces such as USB, infrared port, SD card slot, audio/video and network interfaces, etc. The vertical frequency/refresh rate shows how many times in a second the image on the screen is refreshed. If someone comes across a different type of panel or their 34GP83A doesn't correspond to our review, let us know and we'll update the review.
