Not that it didn’t give me any boost at all but this one was more subtle in comparison. Its Continental Adaptive Traxion, a rubber outsole technology developed by—get this—artificial intelligence gives it powerful traction on hard surfaces like asphalt or concrete. I did have a bit of trouble on softer terrain around El Retiro where the impact on the slightly wet and squishy ground made it feel like I wasn’t as stable as I was on harder surfaces. At P5,500, the Adidas Pulseboost HD is at the lower end of the spectrum and that’s for a reason. The shoes aren’t necessarily groundbreaking and they are miles away from some of the best trainers Adidas has created. Some runners found the Ultraboost midsole to be a bit too mushy, and that’s why Adidas developed the Boost HD. There is still some bounce to the boost, but it’s definitely a lot firmer than the regular Boost material. Boost HD is a completely different experience than regular Boost. It’s much firmer, and you don’t sink into the midsole.

The midsole technology is made out of the Boost material. However, they’ve compressed them, which actually gives you a firmer and a stiffer midsole than a regular boost. Boost HD is engineered for more stability with the same best-in-class comfort and energy return—a new expression of the best.In terms of energy return, personally I feel that they provided great rebound in every stride thus I sincerely believe it will not disappoint both serious and recreational runners. Moreover, the sleek shoes were designed specifically for individuals with a preference for navigating the urban environment. “ Running in a city is unlike running anywhere else,” says Adidas Running senior product manager Stephan Schneider. “Traffic, lights, and crowds make for a unique experience. We wanted to create something that was born from urban runners.” There is an internal heel counter which is enforced on the outsole of the heel, and there are enforcements on either side of the toes. The only downside is the warm lining which kept my feet a tad bit too warm during my day-to-day training in tropical Singapore. This feature will definitely come in handy if you’re headed to a temperate country during the cooler seasons though – so it’s one to accompany you on your runs even while on holiday overseas.

Instead of pulling either side of the upper together over the tongue (like a regular lacing system), it is just pulling on the band, and it is making the fabric of the upper fold over on itself, which would create a hotspot. I’ve tried Adidas running shoes before, and Adidas is most famous for its Boost midsole material. I’ve tried both the Solar Boost and the Solar Drive before, which both have a Boost midsole. The outsole is something I’m probably the most impressed with, and that’s not something I often say about an outsole. It's quite a bit of Continental rubber, hence why this shoe is quite heavy, but it provides fantastic traction. The Ballistic Nylonouter which doubles as a waterproof layer was also particularly useful for running during a drizzle and through random puddles on the ground. Judging by the unpredictable and fast moving rain clouds in Singapore during the monsoon season, these shoes would no doubt be useful even if you’re on a run and it starts pouring suddenly. The Pulseboost HD Winter has a knit-like upper, but it is made of ballistic nylon, which keeps out most of the cold and some of the water and snow that comes with winter running.Whether for everyday runs or simply an addition to your stylish trainers collection, the Adidas Pulseboost HD delivers an enjoyable performance

I had the chance to test this pair while on my trip to Madrid last month where the terrain is varied to say the least, thanks to its numerous tourist locations that throw curveball topographies—from the flat pavements and cobblestone streets of Centro to the more uneven textures of El Retiro and steep uphills of Lavapies. How the Adidas Pulseboost HD looks Surprisingly easy to slip into, many will find the Adidas Pulseboost HD as a go-to pair for running, jogging, or even walking Surprisingly easy to slip into, many will find these trainers as a go-to pair for everyday running, jogging, or even walking around the city. The fit was secure and snug without feeling too tight and the upper enabled decent ventilation, making it a breeze to use. That said, I found the sizing runs larger than usual. There was about an extra inch or two in the toe box that made it seem it’s going to cause a bit of trouble with every step. Recently, Adidas came with Boost HD. No, not High Definition, but High Density. This sounded like a great idea; Boost is a great midsole material, so why wouldn’t you want more of it in the same midsole? The Pulseboost HD is much closer to the ground and has a firmer feel than the regular Boost in the Solar Drive. I think the shoes could last many miles. The tread looks extremely durable. The bottom of my pair only has 40 miles running on them, so it may be hard to tell how they will look after 400 miles. The traction of this shoe is really good, and I liked that it kept my toes nice and warm in colder conditions. If you like a more minimally cushioned ride with more ground feel, this could be a good shoe for you.

Having read all these wonderful features on the specs sheet, how does it actually feel when taken out for a run? The Pulseboost HD Winterized Test The tongue and heel collar are slightly padded. The tongue is semi-detached, and most overlays seem to be glued onto the upper rather than stitched. The Adidas Pulseboost HD is the latest release from the three-stripe brand that features its newest Boost technology. Simply called Boost HD (which stands for high density), the innovation is created to offer “more stability with the same energy return and comfort” according to its press release. But the good thing is that the longer I used the Pulseboost HD, the more comfortable it felt and the more apparent the cushioning was on the soles—hardly noticeable but adequate and ample. It delivers comfort even after long use—no pain or foot fatigue—and that’s something many recreational runners can rely on. Final verdict Next, it is a known fact that the Boost family is famous for its amazing stability as well as energy return and not forgetting responsiveness. With Pulseboost HD Winterized sitting lower to the ground, it allowed me to run peacefully without the fear of injuring my accident-prone ankles.

The Look

Although on the outside, it is quite a rough knit, on the inside, it is a bit smoother. It does help with the cold, I’ve had other running shoes where my toes got really cold while running outside in colder conditions and I didn’t have that issue in this shoe. Surprisingly easy to slip into, many will find these trainers a go-to pair for everyday running, jogging, or even walking I actually think that’s a good thing. It’s great that most running shoes are very breathable, but when it’s freezing outside, so are my toes. So, I think it’s a good thing more winter shoes are being released. The Pulseboost HD feels a bit like they are already worn out before you’ve really worn them. Conclusion
