Description

Sorinda is a FABULOUS heroine. Her transformation from uncaring, unfeeling assassin to someone who'd allow Kearan into her life was achieved slowly and believably. If you're into the grumpy/sunshine trope (with a grumpy heroine), this absolutely fits. Kearan is the ultimate supportive hero; I usually like heroes with a bit more of an edge, but he gets some good lines and did grow on me. He's definitely perfect for Sorinda.

I pull his feet out from under him, climb atop his wriggling body, and prepare to go for the throat. The lad can’t be more than twelve. He’s all height with no muscles to his limbs. He’s fallen in with a bad crowd, but even I don’t murder children. As I let my dagger drift closer to his throat, I replace the face before me with one from my memories. One with lighter skin, a beauty mark on the left side of his forehead, a single gold hoop high up on one ear. Straw-colored hair and a clean-shaven face. A cleft in the middle of the chin. Wait, I thought the SHADOWS companion novel was coming out in summer 2023? It was. The sales team has made some adjustments. My new publication schedule is as follows:

Hello?” the remaining man calls out, likely having seen his crewman pulled out from his line of sight before the doors closed.

This book is killer! Literally. Fans of DAUGHTER OF THE PIRATE KING will love this new journey with Sorinda as the main character. She’s an assassin, Captain, and all around awesome pirate. It's as easy and fast to read as the original duology but I'd would've liked more of the romance aspect to develop. I also would've liked if the artifacts would've been a bit more explored. That part seemed a bit rushed. I also wouldn't have said no to more Alosa and Riden but Sorinda was a great main character so I can live without it. Sadly, I really dislike the cover. The Plague has left a population divided between Elites and Ordinaries—those who have powers and those who don’t; now, an Ordinary teen fights for her life. One of the reasons I never got into Throne of Glass is because - even at age 11/12 - I felt very strongly that any character who was billed to me as a cutthroat assassin should, at some point, actually be a cutthroat assassin. This particular book opens with 18-year-old Sorinda Veshtas murdering an entire house of people, so we can safely say she's got cutthroat assassination in spades.

eBook Details

No one knows the extent of the freshly crowned Shadow King’s power. Some say he can command the shadows that swirl around him to do his bidding. Others say they speak to him, whispering the thoughts of his enemies. Regardless, Alessandra knows what she deserves, and she’s going to do everything within her power to get it. Authors, if you are a member of the Goodreads Author Program, you can edit information about your own books. Find out how in this guide. This book felt boring for me to be honest, there’s not much that really happened until the last part of the book. I didn’t feel any chemistry between the two main characters. Beside that, Sorinda, the female main character is for the most part of this book closed up and gives everyone the cold shoulder. I didn’t like her and even though she explains herself towards the ending, I still didn’t like her because it took her too long, to feel any sympathy for her or the choices she made. I liked the plot, the high seas adventure, getting to see a little bit of Alosa again, the themes and everything in between. I extend my arm until it is only inches from Vordan’s left ankle. My fingers tiptoe ever closer, until my pointer finger is directly behind his heel. It would be so easy to slice his Achilles tendon. He’d never walk again. Instead, I draw circles against the wood slats on the floor, allowing Vordan to think the last thoughts he will ever have. Eventually, he sighs, pulls his legs onto the bed, and fidgets with the covers.

Read the first chapter here or listen to the first chapter audio here while you put together a puzzle of the cover! I throw the doors open wide, sight my mark, and fling my blade. The dagger lands true, embedding in his throat. I don’t retrieve it just yet. Time is precious now. The relationship between Sorinda and Kearan was so sweet! Delicate, subtle and discreet, it consists of small gestures, fleeting glances and a few soft words here and there. It is a full-blown slooow burn that made me sweat so much! Sorinda initially dislikes Kearan, his attention, the way he seems to understand her and especially see her wherever she hides. She tries to ignore him, or treat him badly, with funny situations and tasty banter. Kearan is always there, one step behind, ready to accept all her comments and various attitudes with great patience. I enjoyed the building of their relationship, the way they slowly begin to understand and support each other, talking about various problems and dealing with different situations. Their relationship is different from that of Alosa and Riden, less sizzling in some respects, but still very enjoyable. Okay, Alosa and Riden remain my favorites, but Sorinda and Kearan are super cute!I loved Sorinda, the protagonist with her single first person pov! Eighteen-year-old Sorinda is an assassin working for the pirate queen Alosa, extremely skilled and efficient in her assignments. Serious, meticulous and gruff, she is a solitary, taciturn and reserved girl who thrives in the shadows and hates being the center of attention. Sorinda struggles to interact with people, to form relationships, accustomed to keeping everything and everyone at a distance. Except for a few trusted people, for whom she would be willing to do anything. Scarred by a difficult and painful past, behind the grumpy attitude and under the biting irony hides a sensitive soul, full of torment and insecurities. She is a complex and multifaceted character with a wonderful characterization and a beautiful path of growth! She had already intrigued me in "Daughter of the Pirate King", but here, with her pov, she won me over! I’ve lived by these words since I was five years old. They’ve served me well through many cold nights spent alone. They’re doubly useful when I find myself killing, which is more often than not. The pirate queen has many enemies, and I’m the one she sends to take care of them.
