Comienza desde la infancia, donde Punpun se enamora, por primera vez, de una compañera de clases llamada Aiko. En ese preciso momento cambia su vida para siempre. Regarding good old Aiko, you obviously reread every word of hers through the lense of what she eventually decides to do. When I first read the story, I felt as intrigued by Aiko as the protagonist was, but I didn't "like" her as a romantic goal. Her explicit need for her partner to abandon everything and just focus on her is terrifying, yet I forgot that she admitted that she would do that same thing for the other person. Later on, of course, that's what she does. She abandons her family, her city, herself, for Punpun and whatever fate they might have, to the extent of barely resisting when he attempts to strangle her to death; at that point she seemed more worried about his fate than her own. Her deepest wish was to disappear in a loving relationship, which would allow her to escape from her terrible life. You poor ghost of a creature. Characters [ edit ] Punpun Onodera ( 小野寺 プンプン, Onodera Punpun) / Punpun Punyama ( プン山 プンプン, Punyama Punpun) A young boy who is most often depicted as a bird, although he is also shown in other forms as his character evolves. When he is feeling confused about life or depressed he consults "God" using a chant his uncle taught him. Aiko Tanaka ( 田中 愛子, Tanaka Aiko) Punpun's primary love interest. Early on, she suggests that she and Punpun run away to Kagoshima. She occasionally takes on the last name Orihara ( 織原). God ( 神, Kami, literally God) A being, displayed as a photographic afro head, that often appears in front of Punpun in his times of need (Punpun "summons" him by saying, "Dear God, Dear God, Tinkle hoy"). Mama Punpun Punpun's mother, depressed and suffering from mood swings and anger issues. She has a very conflicted relationship with Punpun, to whom she gives her last name, Onodera, after she and Punpun's father get divorced. Yūichi Onodera ( 小野寺 雄一, Onodera Yūichi ) Punpun's uncle, a 30-something freeter. Yūichi takes care of Punpun while his mother is in the hospital. Midori Ōkuma ( 大隈 翠, Ōkuma Midori ) Yūichi's girlfriend who runs a cafe. She briefly joins Punpun's family during middle school and helps take care of him and his family. Sachi Nanjō ( 南条 幸, Nanjō Sachi ) A young woman Punpun meets in his young adult life. She is an aspiring manga artist who grows to be one of Punpun's close friends. Masumi Seki ( 関 真澄, Seki Masumi ) One of Punpun's childhood friends, who is a close companion of Shimizu. He is cynical and aloof, but cares deeply for Shimizu. Kō Shimizu ( 清水 コー, Shimizu Kō) One of Punpun's childhood friends. Shimizu has a wild imagination and depends on Seki. He later joins Pegasus' cult. Toshiki Hoshikawa / "Pegasus" ( 星川 敏樹, Hoshikawa Toshiki ) The leader of a cult in Punpun's city and a recurring side character. Mitsuko Tanaka ( 田中 光子, Tanaka Mitsuko) Aiko's mother. A cult member, she is cruel and abusive to her daughter, and shows signs of mental instability. Though she ends up crippled, later chapters suggest this may be an act. Heiroku Shishido ( 宍戸平六, Shishido Heiroku) Punpun's landlord, who becomes his friend. Shuntarō Harumi ( 晴見俊太郎, Harumi Shuntaro) One of Punpun's childhood friends. He becomes an elementary school teacher. Production [ edit ]In the end, my complain is, the mangaka fails to make the reader identify with any of the characters, just because they're so vile. I'm a depressive, dark and nihilistic guy, and I'm telling you these characters are not real. You can read about a caricatured bird and feel it exists and thinks, but Punpun and the people around him read like a cheap soap opera with long boring useless pseudo-philosophy thrown everywhere. You inevitably get bored by the suicidal ranting, and I became really worried about the mangaka that managed to maintain this for 13 volumes without cutting his wrists. Gute Nacht, Punpun, Band 1". Tokyopop (in German). Archived from the original on July 26, 2015 . Retrieved July 25, 2015. That was terrible. It was edge 101 and don’t want any excuses of the sort “But Snob, these things are real and happen all the time.” They do not happen all the time, to such extremes, and so close to each other. Stop trying to defend this crap as anything more than overdramatic nonsense. You were saying the same crap about the mother in Erased, which was the exact same thing. Ressler, Karen (July 24, 2015). "Viz Media Licenses Inio Asano's Goodnight Pun Pun Manga". Anime News Network. Archived from the original on July 25, 2015 . Retrieved July 24, 2015. Mangas are tough for me. I like classics, and by that, I think Akira is the only one that’s really done it for me. Punpun was recommended to me by an acquaintance and I’ll be real, upon opening it up the first time I couldn’t stand the style in which the more manga-esque characters were drawn so I forgot about it. Fast forward to a few months later and I decided to turn around to face the manga wall and read something from there instead of another pathetic story about some male hopeless-romantic (my favorite genre—I use pathetic lightly).

El final me enojó, me dolió. No podía creer lo que pasaba, pero ahora a la distancia no lo cambiaría, lo aprecio como es. EDIT: Now that I recall, it's actually four arcs if you count Punpun's date with that normal high schooler. She was repulsed and disturbed by the protagonist's brokenness, and she could only think of him in positive terms a few years later, when he had faded in her memories. the art is beautiful. the storytelling is grotesque. honestly, some aspects made me want to throw up, or cry, or absolutely lose my shit - asano, you did a good job. honestly when i read this i’m pretty sure it put me into a deep depression, or at least made it worse, but honestly it was worth it. punpun’s depiction of self pity and hopelessness really hurt me, it felt shameful relating to him in that sense, though it could be worse.but genuinely, there are so many sensitive topics shown and spoken about in this, so if you’re not ready for it - don’t read it - from personal experience.

Viz Media. What if you you're the only one who sees that light? in Japanese). Toei Company. Archived from the original on January 6, 2019 . Retrieved March 31, 2022.This manga encapsulates a lot of triggering things like suicide, rape and sexual assault. I don’t recommend reading this series if you have a hard time with those certain topics because these books just throw it right at you. Negative thoughts aside, I thought the story was beautifully executed. the thing with manga is that a lot of authors like to take events to the extreme and they give you a lot exaggerated emotions and actions in an instant which I don't particularly dislike but it does give off a more unrealistic setting. this author slowly incorporated events and situations that slowly but effectively sets the mood and setting. the events that took place in the book could be described as random yet completely possible, events happened that you would not expect to happen but can completely happen in the real world. crazy and random, but everything is still tied to the focus of the book. Buonanotte Punpun 1". Panini Comics (in Italian). Archived from the original on July 25, 2015 . Retrieved July 25, 2015. Punpun is real, but he's simply not there, not like the others are. He feels, thinks, lives on a different plane of existence and perception. His interactions are apparently normal: he has schoolmates, a family, a sweetheart, his own unlikely image of God appearing time and again in moments of distress. Except that the reader never sees him talking to anybody, except through indirect speech. There's a distance between Punpun and the others that words cannot seem to cross without losing the property of sound that makes them real. He does communicate, but it's a kind of communication whose form is as incongruous as his physical presence.

I added the link to this review in my review for the last volume, but I think it bears repeating. It's a beautiful YouTube review for those who have read the entire thing, and it's full of nicely edited pictures. Something you'd probably like if you love this series as much as I do.

Ozaki, Mio. "The disaffected world of Inio Asano". Daily Yomiuri Online. Archived from the original on April 24, 2010 . Retrieved July 25, 2015. You pity him through his demise, you might even get angry at him. Nothing seems to work out how he wants it to, and his way with dealing with it can be upsetting.
