Colouring is a great way to keep children's minds active and busy, and they won't even realise they are working because it's such fun! If you're in search of a few more excellent colouring sheets that should be easy to obtain for classroom use, here are some choices that might be useful for you: By deciding a story, it can also help us master the dragon’s character when we fill in the eyes and portray a sense of their story. How to colour fire Once you've created, coloured and designed your own dragons, you could take things a step further with this Design a Dragon Egg Template Worksheet. Not only can they be decorated with patterns and colour, but they're also great for story writing inspiration, just like our dragons. This includes two that show just the face of the dragon. These can be cut out and used as masks after they've been coloured in to add extra fun to your Chinese New Year celebrations. Even if you keep it simpler with that second idea, you could add a pile of gold to create a bit of a story. If you were to add some gold and jewels, then you could also use some art mediums to make it look even cooler.

We always love to see your creative coloring skills on show and we look forward to seeing some awesome dragons! Because of this, in recent years some families in China have purposely planned to have a child during the Chinese Year of the Dragon. This is done in the belief that their child will be endowed with these traits and will therefore be more likely to be successful in life. Our Dragon Adjectives Word Mat will help children with their vocabulary and spelling when they’re writing about dragons. To focus on the natural world, try this Butterfly Role Play Mask Colouring Sheet, which challenges the class to decorate an illustration of a beautiful butterfly.

Make it fun and tailor it to their interests! Our dragon colouring in sheets are perfect for children who like fantasy and dragons - but there are endless possibilities as colouring sheets come in so many themes and topics! There will be sure to be something that suits your child's interests. The colouring sheet features a simple outline of a Chinese dragon, inspired by the illustrations traditionally associated with the Chinese New Year. The previous dragon printable had a cute and happy dragon, but for this next one we have a very angry looking one. We have a closeup on this cool looking dragon face, and he looks like he means business! You could have it be a beautiful blue, clear day or you could use oranges and yellows to make it seem like more of a dawn or dusk set image. Dragons are mythical creatures. They breathe fire in our stories and fly through our imaginations. Sometimes they guard piles of gold and are slain by knights.

What's the difference between Chinese dragons and other dragons?

The more realistic style of this dragon printable makes me think that more muted colors would work well for this one. You could use a nice green to give him a very lizard-like look or use a darker red to give him a more fiery look. This easy Chinese dragon colouring sheet is ideal for introducing children to some aspects of traditional Chinese culture while developing their fine motor skills and creativity.

In the old days, people used to believe in dragons. They were even displayed in maps! The poor dragons were blamed for many unpleasant things. In fact, most things that couldn’t be explained were blamed on dragons, such as disease, failing crops, bad weather and even war. This beautifully-illustrated Chinese New Year Story PowerPoint will teach your children about the 12 different animals in the Chinese Zodiac and what they symbolise. You can’t learn how to colour a dragon without learning how to colour the beautiful fiery flames they produce! Here’s a really helpful video tutorial from the Colouring Heaven YouTube channel about how to colour fire. As you can see, there are so many simple ways you can make your favorite images look even more awesome! You could also draw other characters such as brave knights or even other dragons to really finish it off.

Looking for something different

Celebrating Chinese New Year can be a fun and exciting way to teach children about another country's culture. The Chinese Dragon is an especially good way to do this, as children love the amazing colours they're usually shown in, as well as the magical stories associated with them. When colouring scales, try to create a gradient of the same or different colours to make them look more realistic. One way to do this is to start at the top of scale and colour in small circular motions pushing down hard (but careful not to burnish) then as you fill out the rest of the scale, ease up on the pressure, this will make it look as though the scale has different layers without having to colour in several layers for all of the scales!

We’re getting a mean look from this scary creature. This dragon coloring sheet has another more detailed dragon, and it looks like there may be smoke in the air near it, Maybe he’s standing near a volcano, and you could color the smoke in while using an orange for the sky to show that there’s fire and lava nearby. You could try to use some acrylic or watercolor paints for the fire to make it seem even more intense. These can be used on their own as a colouring activity for children, which is great for their fine motor skills and can be a great activity for finding calmness in the classroom with some colouring for mindfulness. They could also make a great part of an art lesson or topics including dragons, but Twinkl's favourite idea would be to use these as part of a story writing activity. Use a dragon outline for children to colour and draw the characteristics and appearance for a dragon character they can describe in their own story. Finish your dragon’s eye with a highlight detail using an eraser or a white marker pen, to give it realistic depth and dimension! Maybe you want something more active and interactive for your dragon-themed lessons? If so, why not try a Friendly Dragon Role-Play Mask?! Perfect for role-play in the classroom! For this one I would also think of colors you may find on lizards and other reptiles like greens and grays, but you could always use more fantastical colors as well. What will you choose for this dragon printable? We’ve created a wide variety of cute comic dragons – from chubby baby dragons to cute fluffy horned lizards.
