Description

Are these supposed to be characters in a medieval-inspired fantasy or students at the whitest high school in Temecula, California? Good food, good friends, and a safe place is his dream, but now he is in the middle of a war because the king of Troivack wants the lands in Daxaria because his people's greed destroyed their own lands. And on that note, I really did appreciate Delemhach's descriptions of food, which made my mouth water and inspired me to work on my own cooking. If just one horror movie could have an intelligent person in the story I would enjoy it (and rate higher). Also - I absolutely love the characters in this story, and had numerous laugh out loud moments that I was not expecting.

The House Witch | Book by Arin Murphy-Hiscock | Official

Corwin bought the house in 1675 when he was 35, and lived there for more than 40 years; the house remained in the Corwin family until the mid-19th century. The only major conflict that sees resolution is the "will they, won't they" romance between Fin and Annika, which is easily the least interesting arc of the story. WAIT ALSO THE BROTHEL SCENE LMAOOOOO Like I understand this is supposed to be a comedic, funsy, romantic novel but what was that?I will continue to read the author’s books as I do enjoy them, but I must say the author is not skilled in writing. Having somehow convinced Lady Annika Jenoure to marry him, all Finlay Ashowan wants to do is settle down, cook some good meals, and enjoy a quiet life in Daxaria.

Filled with fascinating characters, courtly intrigue, political machinations, delicious cuisines, cuddly companions, magical hijinks, and will-they-won’t-they romance, The House Witch is the first in a captivating new series. All because I kept reasoning to myself that, because I was healing Fin and myself, it wasn’t as terrible as it could have been. It's written in a sort of nineties style, with omniscient and quick narration; reminded me of the Enchanted Forest Chronicles. Delemhach is the Canadian author of the popular online series, The House Witch, and is already hard at work on the sequel series, The Burning Witch. We see the newly possessed teenage girl (by the witch) covering herself in a gray blanket now walking down the road.

The House Witch and The Enchanting of the Hearth

I could cross-read this book and take note of everything that was ridiculous but I don't hate myself enough to open this book again. The idea that an uneducated peasant was trying to take care of one of their esteemed selves was abrasive to them all" (128). I am mad because I was so hopeful and excited after reading the first book which makes it even more of a disappointment. Filled with fascinating characters, courtly intrigue, political machinations, delicious cuisines, cuddly companions, magical hijinks, and will-they-won’t-they romance, The House Witch is the first in a captivating new series, guaranteed to satisfy the tastes of any listener. And look, I do enjoy a dumb, sweet protagonist (Percy, Zagreus, Adolin, classical himbos, etc) but Finlay is DUMB DUMB.

If you are looking for a light read with romantic tension and a moderately interesting set up this book will do very well. And because Finlay and Annika speak to each other in stilted dialogue (except when they're lobbing insults back and forth), their romance is impossible to believe.
