The structure of this book may work well for someone who just wants to jump to a chapter to learn about a specific album’s details. However, I feel that the book would read better if it were written more like a story of her life. It’s kind of a mix between styles. I walked away with a huge appreciation for Pink’s talent, artistry, determination and straight forwardness. Semigran, Aly (September 7, 2011). "PopWatch PSA: Please stop using Pink's 'Raise Your Glass' in every trailer". Entertainment Weekly . Retrieved October 2, 2011.

ARIA End of Year Singles Chart 2010". Australian Recording Industry Association . Retrieved 2020-02-28. P!nk (pronounced Pink) was born Alecia Beth Moore on September 8, 1979, in Doylestown, Pennsylvania. Pink, as she's otherwise known, gets her name from the movie Reservoir Dogs, a film she saw as a teenager and whose character Mr. Pink is someone her friends all agreed she resembled. Best Known For: Contrasting her edgy, tomboyish style with that of her female pop star peers, Pink has had huge success with hits like "There You Go,""Raise Your Glass" and "What About Us." There is power in believing in yourself. You may not be the best that ever did it, you may not be the prettiest, or the tallest, or the funniest, or the most talented — if you’re stubborn and you don’t give up and you work really hard — no one else can ever be you.”—Pink The song was released in October 2010. It was praised by critics who said it was a party anthem. It was successful commercially as well. It reached the Top 10 in several countries, including the United States. There it became Pink's second solo number one hit, following " So What," and her third overall. The music video has scenes that include a skateboarding setting, which is reminiscent of Pink's debut music video for " There You Go," [ citation needed] and a scene in a high school prom where Pink sniffs under her arm, the same thing she did in the music video for " Get the Party Started." [ citation needed] The final scenes show a girl crying during her graduation, a reference to Pink's success in delivering her message after years since her debut. [ citation needed] Raise Your Glass" was announced as the lead single from Pink's then-upcoming greatest hits compilation on October 1, 2010. The song follows a strong pop style, [4] in much similar fashion to her previous work with producer Max Martin. She consistently out-sings her contemporaries with hit songs such as, "Get the Party Started," "Just Like a Pill," "So What," "What About Us," and "Beautiful Trauma," while her willingness to speak frankly about difficult topics has made her a relatable role model. She is an outspoken animal rights activist, and has been vocal about women's rights, LGBT rights, and her support of same-sex marriage.

Between the beautiful photos, the quotes directly from Pink herself, and the inside scoop on the music origins, this is a must read for any fan of Pink’s music. The only thing that would have made this better would have been diving more into her personal life, but I don’t feel like that was the point of this account. Highly recommended for fans of Pink but also for those who enjoy knowing a little more about songs and artists that have grabbed and held onto the public eye for a long time. Pop career expectations change all the time. We’re in this weird stage now where pop stars never seem to go away, unless it’s entirely by choice. Online fan armies will support their favorites through anything short of outright grand-scale evil, and attention-spans are so scattered that this kind of cultish devotion can ensure artists’ relevance long past their sell-by dates. One-hit wonders are less and less common. If you were famous once, then you’re famous forever. This new reality may or may not be sustainable. We’ll see. ARIA End of Year Singles Chart 2011". Australian Recording Industry Association . Retrieved 2020-02-28.I really enjoyed learning about the details of the music career of the artist Pink. This book covers specifics such as the inspiration for her songs, who she wrote music with, managers and others who helped her career, and artists that she collaborated with. There are details about her music videos and concert theatrics, awards she has won, and causes that she has supported along the way. Photographs showcase some of Pink’s more memorable moments. Lyrically, “Raise Your Glass” takes delight in being “loud and nitty-gritty dirty little freaks,” but it never gets much more specific than that. Pink sings about being wrong in the right way, being an underdog, but she doesn’t say what that means. In the video, things become a little more clear. A lot of the clip is pure silliness — Pink pretending to be a bull who defeats a matador, Pink sumo-wrestling with the Monopoly guy. But Pink also poses as Rosie The Riveter, a clear pop-feminist statement, and director Dave Meyers shows Pink playing guitar at a gay wedding. The shot of two guys kissing is immediately followed by Pink dressing up as a cholo for the “call me up if you a gangsta” line, which probably wasn’t necessary, but that kiss is in there. Guld- och Platinacertifikat − År 2010" (PDF) (in Swedish). IFPI Sweden. Archived from the original (PDF) on 2011-05-17 . Retrieved July 27, 2022. The song was released as the album's lead single on October 5, 2010, by Jive Records gaining both critical and commercial success, being acclaimed by most music critics and described as a party anthem, and reaching the top-ten in several countries, including the United States, where it became her third number-one single. In 2011, "Raise Your Glass" was ranked at number thirteen on the "Top 40 Year End Chart" based on Mediabase. [2] I've always loved Pink's music and knew a bit about her personally because she grew up about an hour away from my hometown. I remember seeing a lot on the news as she was starting out in the music industry and thought this would be an interesting read to get the full story on her life thus far.
