The book is not a dry treatise on the history of medicine, though; the tale is of his quest, and he shares every aspect of it with the reader in such a way that you feel like you’re looking over his shoulder, experiencing the excitement of each neIn the episode "Speak as ye choose" Julien tells Mary that times have changed and men "listen to women" now. He then spends the episode barely listening to Mary's story and interrupting Fanny whenever she tries to speak. The plague pit ghosts also speak more like modern council estate dwellers than medieval peasants. Presumably as a deliberate joke. Bridget Christie as Annie – The ghost of a Puritan woman who died in 1711 after choking on a piece of bread and haunted Button House prior to the first series. She was close with Mary, teaching her how to speak her mind, before moving onto the afterlife. Isabella Laughland as Clare – A woman who plans and ultimately has her wedding to partner Sam at Button House. Glamour Failure: In the first series episode Moonah Ston, one of Barclay Beg-Chetwynde's dogs barks incessantly at ghosts Robin and Pat, the latter of whom attempts to pet them.Lady Button calls Alison an "ill-bred hen" for shrieking, then sees her husband's portrait and shrieks. This seems to be played straight with Humphrey at first, as he's is wearing all his finery, complete with ruff, when execution victims were actually beheaded wearing only an undershirt and trousers. But then Series 3 reveals that Humphrey was actually beheaded in a freak accident, and not executed. Charlotte Ritchie as Alison Cooper – A young woman who has inherited a mansion from Heather Button, a distant relative of unspecified relation. The couple has successfully saved up enough money through their jobs and event bookings at Button House to continue renovations for their hotel project. Alison reconnects with Lucy and offers to loan her money to help Lucy's failing business. However, the ghosts uncover Lucy's true intentions as a con artist when they discover Lucy faked the photograph of Alison's father, which she used as proof of their blood relation. Meanwhile, Mike receives unexpected help from Julian while trying to film a video to promote Button House. Alison and Mike expose Lucy's scam before she can take their money. Artistic License – Space: A lunar eclipse is shown as the moon being covered up, like a solar eclipse. Camping Episode: The plot of "The Woodworm Men"; Button House is being fumigated for Woodworm, so Alison and Mike decide to camp for the night outside (though Mike is less enthusiastic about it).
