I know that you are living in England at the moment. Is there anywhere else in the world that you would prefer to live?

I can't even choose which character I loved more, they were all so kind hearted and brave and everyone had something that just made you love them. But of course Feo was a great main character with her naive, but brave point of view and Ilya who became such a good friend to Feo, even if they didn't met in good circumstances.Feo loves her quiet, fulfilling existence, but the world outside is cruel and dangerous. The Russian army are laying waste to the surrounding areas, spreading corruption, greed and fear throughout the land.

The whole book was very fast paced and it is one of those stories you could just sit down on the sofa on an afternoon and just read. So let this story of a fierce, independent, stubborn, determined girl who runs with the wolves be all the motivation you need to go out there and make a change. Because if a half-wild girl can speak such eloquent words as those below, than there’s no reason your voice shouldn’t be heard either. ”Mikal Rakov started all this. Rakov came in the night and burned down our home. He took my mama away, because he was afraid of her. He was afraid that she wasn’t afraid. He’s taking our food and homes. And he’s taking the people we love. And he’s taking our future. And the future needs our protection: It’s a fragile thing. The future needs all the help it can get. The wolves, of course, positively steal the show. The passages about the wolves - their mistreatment at the hands of humans, their indomitable spirits, Feo's interactions with (and love for) them - are among the most beautiful in the book.Of course they could, Feo thought that evening as she put on her skis. Humans, on the whole, Feo could take or leave; there was only one person she loved properly, with the sort of fierce pride that gets people into trouble, or prison, or history books. Her mother, she thought, could do anything. Full disclosure: I received a free electronic ARC for review through Edelweiss. Mild trigger warning for sexual harassment of a minor.) I was told when I was very small, “be as kind as you think you possibly can be – and then, be kinder.” I fail every day but I keep trying. I confess, I am not one for the kind of fairy tale sought of plot or genre but this book is so good I would put it as one of the best books I have read in my short life.

Table of Contents

The only thing I have a problem with is that I like a bit of blood and gore even in my fairy tales, and, apart from the occasional wolf being shot there was not much else. I wish that you could have seen Rakov’s death with chunks coming out of his arm and all. This is glorious. A haunting, fast-paced snowy adventure with another superb gutsy heroine told in Rundell's beautiful and witty style -- A Case for Books Feo and her mother live in the isolated, barren, snowy woods of Russia. Feo is a wolf wilder – a calling that involves teaching tame wolves (no longer needed for entertainment by the shallow, dreadful, rich members of the upper class) how they can life again in the wild.
