a little better however the young actors (Natasha Calis and Charlie Tahan) outshining all the adults, give excellent emotional wide eyed performances as two kids caught in the complexities of an adult phsycho-mess that is the relationship between Katherine (Morton) and Richard (Michael Shannon) and their response to having a sick child. For me it was an hour and twenty minutes well spent and I will be definitely recommending it to friends and family and of course to all you kind souls bothering to read my take on this truly underrated movie. She desperately tries to get her deceased son out of the burning house, but is unsuccessful when the roof collapses on them. A TV weatherman is recruited by government scientists to help contain powerful freak winds before they converge and destroy the planet. If you are a fan of the genre and enjoy good slow burn with a brilliant payoff ending, then give this film a watch!

The film is directed by John McNaughton and features acclaimed actor Peter Fonda ( Easy Rider) as Maryann's grandfather. She moves into the neighborhood with her grandparents (played by Leslie Lyles and the ever so cool Peter Fonda), after the death of her parents. The most terrifying aspect of the film comes from this harrowing performance by Samantha Morton, who plays the doting, loving and obsessive mother. It may seem like a bit of a chore at times, but there is a lot to enjoy in this quietly terrifying, character-driven horror thriller and it’s worth watching for Samantha Morton’s performance alone. In her role as Katherine Young, Samantha Morton provides a disturbing insight into the lengths a mother will go to protect her child.

In her new neighbourhood, she befriends Andy (Charlie Tahan), the boy next door, whose parents keep him confined to their house due to his serious illness. Overall, the whole cast are spot-on and deliver great performances and they do drive the film forward.

Tension is built up effortlessly and, at times, it is the screaming silence that speaks louder than any words could. As the young pair grow ever closer, Charlie's mother (Morton) becomes increasingly concerned for her sick boy and obsessive in her quest to shelter him from harm. I give Can't Come Out to Play an okay three out of five stars and recommend it for Monday night viewing.

Can’t Come Out To Play explores ideas surrounding the role of the woman; with the two main female characters representing completely opposing ideologies. Samantha Morton's acting ability truly shows in this film, it's my favorite performance of hers next to "CONTROL". He reminded us what real-life horror looks like with HENRY, now brings you a all new psychological horror film entitled: The Harvest. He truly plays the role of a grieving father quite masterfully, so much to where you begin to feel his sadness and pain, it's simply brilliant. She makes a lot of stupid, irrational decisions, but we are reminded that she is only human and prone to mistakes.
