Decent plastic build quality even though competing products offer metal construction at this price point The steady bass drum in Fleetwood Mac’s “The Chain” sounds full and weighty, without any distortion even at maximum (and unsafe) volume levels. It doesn’t quite rattle the head with subwoofer levels of bass, but it’s still a powerful thump. The guitar strings and vocals both come through clearly in the mix, even with the prominent bass. JBL’s QuantumEngine software lets you adjust a variety of features on the headset. It provides a 10-band customizable EQ with multiple presets, to start. You can also toggle DTS simulated surround, JBL’s own QuantumSurround, or disable simulated surround entirely. The colored lighting on the sides of the earcups is also programmable, and you can adjust both the JBL logo and the outer light ring to cycle through up to five different colors at various speeds. The microphone menu offers few options, but you can adjust the sidetone (how much of your voice comes through the headphones when you talk) in addition to mic volume. Microphone Stay one step ahead of the competition. The JBL Quantum 800 headset gives you the edge with accurate spatial audio positioning, lossless 2.4GHz, and Bluetooth dual-wireless capability, Active Noise Cancelling, memory-foam comfort, and up to 14-hour battery life. Designed for total immersion, JBL QuantumSOUND Signature gives you a true audio advantage in battle. The microphone delivers clear multiplayer interactions, with a DISCORD-certified game-chat system, also compatible with TeamSpeak, and more. An ergonomic design with leather-wrapped, memory foam cushions keeps you comfortable for hours. The JBL Quantum 800 headset helps you level up, whether you're a seasoned pro or new to the game. When powered up, the iconic JBL logos that adorn each of the ear cups illuminate into a burst of light while a halo of colour chases around in a circle across the fascias. While the lighting isn’t quite as much as the Quantum One’s you must remember that here you have a wireless headset therefore you do not want to sacrifice all of that battery power! Connection

When it worked right, it was the best headset I've ever owned. But the downsides are are too great for me to ignore anymore... Clamping force: While the earcups themselves are soft and fairly comfortable, those with glasses will NOT like this headset. It really pinches your glasses between your ears with the clamping force, and is both uncomfortable and annoying as a result. If you don't have glasses this likely won't be a factor, not withstanding the overall weight of the thing. Typically, you need to spend a hefty chunk of money to get headphones with good ANC, and the feature is rarely found on gaming headsets at all. The Quantum 800’s ANC is surprisingly strong, cutting out a decent amount of surrounding noise without producing a low-level hiss or significantly changing the sound of what you’re listening to (problems often found in cheap ANC).

The active noise cancellation is perfect for gaming if you either a) want to be completely immersed and b) do not want to listen to Paul Hollywood chatting in Bake Off on the TV in the living room. I did have another unfortunate moment that my fellow Thumb Culture staff can confirm while playing Phasmophobia. Because I was transfixed on the job in hand and was making my way around the dark house searching for evidence of the ghost. Music sounds very good on the Quantum 800 when you use the right settings. Like with the Quantum One, I found the bass to sound thin unless you use the Bass Boost EQ preset, which produces a more robust sound that doesn’t sacrifice any clarity in the mids or highs. Curiously, using the QuantumSurround simulated surround mode produces the best balance when listening to music. The mode boosts treble to match the strong bass, and while the result is a somewhat scooped signature that isn’t particularly accurate, it’s an exciting and balanced sound. Stereo and DTS modes don’t boost the higher frequencies, so music can sound a bit flat or (if you use the Bass Boost preset) bass heavy.

Microphone: It's good, not great. It's better than MANY wireless microphones I've tried, certainly better than the Razor and Logitech microphones I've tried across their recent lineup. Corsair HS80 has this pair beat in terms of microphone quality, but it's got its own issues in other areas (namely, terrible connectivity). All else being equal, this wireless mic is better than most. However, as I mentioned above, the real complicating factor in how the JBL Quantum 800 sounds are the surround sound options. Both the QuantumSURROUND and DTS:X 2.0 settings noticeably alter the audio profile of the headset, and not always in flattering ways. Turning on either setting means two things to varying degrees: mids get less emphasis, and everything else gets boosted, in slightly odd ways. With the DTS setting, it’s a little less noticeable—everything seems louder, for sure, but otherwise sounds normal. It has three major flaws in my opinion. First being you can't adjust the volume using just the headset when using the Bluetooth functionality with my phone. The second being I can't find a way to pause any media (audible, YouTube, etc) while using Bluetooth on my phone. The last is the noise cancelling makes a suction sound that I find absolutely unbearable.

Mediocre battery life: 14 hours is enough for me, as I can charge overnight and am rarely playing 14 hours a day - that being said, it's not as good as competitors Still overall love the design but a bit wonky with the microphone especially after it bends over time and loses its original Also, the human brain uses small head movements to distinguish if sound sources are behind or in front of us. The brain processes the differences between when a sound arrives at the left vs. the right ear to determine where the sound is located. So with JBL QuantumSPHERE 360, you can move your head naturally to pinpoint the exact source of sounds around you.I have had constant issues with the headset dropping Bluetooth and wireless connection when I'm sitting or standing less than 10ft away. Verdict- As it is my first JBL item and as a hardcore gamer I'd like to think this is a fantastic piece of equipment... My only issue is I'm not sure if one of the speakers is having issues at max volume as it sounds a little shaky.

Sadly there is not any wireless charging built into the Quantum 800’s. Therefore you must charge using the included USB C cable. Final Thoughts This is a very good mic, though if you want to seriously record or stream you might want to consider getting a dedicated USB microphone instead of relying on a headset.
