He was strong enough to hold his own against Darquesse and even could've killed her if she hadn't healed herself in their showdown. He can summon spears of darkness, absorb death to make his armour stronger, create ropes of shadows, and use them to rip any people who try to pull off his armour. Lord Vile was even able to hold out against Kitana Kellaway and her friends who's powers were close to those of Argeddion himself. His relationship with Valkyrie continues to surprise me because he will do anything for her but will also put her life in danger and tell her the reasons later it really is strange for him to it but he does have his reasons on why he does it.I think that this one is a lot more dark, violent and disturbing than the first book, so I'd definitely warn a parent to read it first before letting a kid younger than twelve read this. The narrator was great. I loved his accents and how he makes these very strange characters stand out. I like his intonation for Skulduggery, rather sarcastic and one of those people who really don't panic. If he does, then you're in trouble. I enjoy his relationship with Valkyrie/Stephanie. She talks to him kind of disrespectfully, but it doesn't bother him. He treats her as an equal. Derek Landy is an Irish writer and screenwriter. Skulduggery continued forward alone and was confronted by a Scottish man who was called 'The Inquisitor'. He explained to Pleasant that he was there to do a test of purity. He told Skulduggery that the deceased were whispering in his ear, that they knew of his wife and child who were murdered. He tells Skulduggery that his wife and child are waiting for him in the city, to which Pleasant replied that they were dead and that no part of them was there. After losing to Skulduggery, Baron Vengeous goes after China Sorrows, who was once part of a cult that worshipped the Faceless Ones and also included Serpine and Vengous himself. The Baron confronts Sorrows in her apartment whilst Valkyrie is visiting. Valkyrie hides whilst China and Vengeous talk. Vengeous was released from prison by an assassin named Billy-Ray Sanguine who with Dusk. A battle ensues during which Valkyrie defends China. Valkyrie is soon chased by Sanguine, who can travel through earth and buildings. After a struggle, Tanith Low saves her. In the process, Valkyrie steals Sanguine's straight razor.

When Valkyrie Cain is forced into his dimension by Silas Nadir, a Dimensional Shunter, Vengeous is able to capture her. He suspects her to be a member of a feeble resistance movement. He takes her into the capital city of Mevolent, showing her a world with a stark contrast to her own. For instance, he shows her the naked, desecrated body of Mr. Bliss, used by Mevolent as a deterrent against uprising. He then brings her to Mevolent himself before leaving.

The Shark comes for Geoffrey, Valkyrie grabs his arm and pulls him away at the last second. But she drops him again, under water. He looks for the shark and sees it coming for him. But at that time, the water disappears and so does the shark. Geoffrey thanks Valkyrie for saving him. Skulduggery wonders why he doesn't get a thank you too and Geoffrey merely said, Skulduggery told him to shut up and walked away.
