Description

Shadow people are an entity that has been reported by people all over the world. Some people claim to have seen shadow people in the form of a dark figure, while others have experienced a lighter, more wispy figure. The most common description of a shadow person is a tall, dark figure that appears to be wearing a cloak or hooded robe. Rahman, Muhammad; van Boxtel, Jeroen J. A. (1 October 2022). "Seeing faces where there are none: Pareidolia correlates with age but not autism traits". Vision Research. 199: 108071. doi: 10.1016/j.visres.2022.108071. ISSN 0042-6989. PMID 35609357. S2CID 248924908. A notable example of pareidolia occurred in 1877, when observers using telescopes to view the surface of Mars thought that they saw faint straight lines, which were then interpreted by some as canals (see Martian canals). It was theorized that the canals were possibly created by sentient beings. This created a sensation. In the next few years better photographic techniques and stronger telescopes were developed and applied, which resulted in new images in which the faint lines disappeared, and the canal theory was debunked as an example of pareidolia. [23] [24] Projective tests [ edit ] Shadow people, described as "Shadow Men", feature prominently in the 2007 novel John Dies at the End. When they kill a person, that person is retroactively erased from existence, and history is rewritten as though they were never born. Beyond being scary or stressful, it’s also usually a sign that something else is going on. So if it’s happening to you, talk to your doctor. That’s the first step toward getting better. Why It Might HappenShadow people sightings are often linked to the phenomenon of sleep paralysis. Many individuals who experience sleep paralysis report seeing shadowy figures lurking in their rooms or hovering over them, often referred to as the “night hag” or “old hag” phenomenon. These encounters can be particularly distressing due to the combination of being partially awake but unable to move. No one knows for sure what causes the phenomenon. Among other things, I found ‘explanations’ including: Those who favor scientific, over supernatural, explanations theorize that shadow people could be time travelers, visiting us from the future. They believe this can adequately explain why shadow figures look human-like in form. It is the nature in which they travel that makes them unable to materialize as fully formed humans when manipulating the spacetime continuum. E.H. Gombrich riffs on this theme, explaining that “[i]t was believed by the ancient Greeks that when we take leave of the real world we survive only as shades among shades” (1995: 17).

Benign shadow figures are commonly known to observe or watch over individuals without any ill intent. Sibbald, M.D. "Report on the Progress of Psychological Medicine; German Psychological Literature", The Journal of Mental Science, Volume 13. 1867. p. 238 Pareidolia can cause people to interpret random images, or patterns of light and shadow, as faces. [10] A 2009 magnetoencephalography study found that objects perceived as faces evoke an early (165 ms) activation of the fusiform face area at a time and location similar to that evoked by faces, whereas other common objects do not evoke such activation. This activation is similar to a slightly faster time (130 ms) that is seen for images of real faces. The authors suggest that face perception evoked by face-like objects is a relatively early process, and not a late cognitive reinterpretation phenomenon. [11] This one is alone, and he showed up in my new home. To know it’s not just me, my friends saw him too even when I never told them about him.

What Does Seeing a Shadow Person Mean?

If, however, you find yourself harassed by one of these entities, there are certain steps you can take to make them go away. Getting Rid of a Shadow Person HISTORICAL MONUMENTS OF NIGDE". World Heritage Academy. 2013. Archived from the original on 14 May 2021 . Retrieved 21 April 2019.

A smaller amount of people, those who have had more intriguing than scary encounters with these entities, surmise that shadow people are nothing more than guardians, or spirit guides, entrusted to watch over specific individuals throughout their lives. The first shadow puppets were likely made out of animal hides. Since they were strong and flexible, they allowed the puppeteer to move the puppet easily to create the desired effects on the screen. Leather is still a popular material used to make shadow puppets today. Still, others suggest that shadow people are visitors from another dimension, one that exists all around us, but we rarely see. Mathematicians and string theorists believe there are at least 10 dimensions, but quite possibly as many as 26. Who is to say these extraordinary beings are not interdimensional visitors? Anderson, Scott Thomas (2012). Shadow People: How Meth-driven Crime Is Eating At the Heart of Rural America. Coalition for Investigative Journalism. ISBN 978-0615551913. Medical educators sometimes teach medical students and resident physicians (doctors in training) to use pareidolia and patternicity to learn to recognize human anatomy on radiology imaging studies.

Seeing shapes in cloud patterns is another example of this phenomenon. Rogowitz and Voss (1990) showed a relationship between seeing shapes in cloud patterns and fractal dimension. The varied the fractal dimension of the boundary contour from 1.2 to 1.8, and found that the lower the fractal dimension, the more likely people were to report seeing namable shapes of animals, faces, and fantasy creatures. [22] Mars canals [ edit ] Map of Martian "canals" by Percival Lowell Vanishing Acts: One common characteristic of shadow people is their ability to vanish instantly. Witnesses often report that these entities disappear as soon as they are noticed or approached directly. This vanishing act adds to the mystery surrounding shadow people and contributes to the belief that they possess supernatural or paranormal abilities. Pareidolia is frequent among patients with Parkinson's disease and dementia with Lewy bodies. [8] Pareidolia correlates with age but not autism traits. [9] Explanations [ edit ]
