This stand was demolished in 1985, after the Bradford City stadium fire, and replaced by seven steps of shallow uncovered terracing which held only a small number of supporters. It was replaced a year later by the current stand, constructed of brick and steel, a building seen by many as a traditional, old-fashioned stand, typical of football stadia in Northern England. The seating was replaced in 2020 with the word 'COUNTY' spelt out in white letters on the blue seats. The original Cheadle End, built in 1923, was a small covered terrace of largely timber construction, with room for around 3,000 people. It is also often referred to as the Pop Side, Barlow Stand, or the Vernon Stand due to the former sponsorship of the stand by the Vernon Building Society.

They were so embarrassed that they’d employed a foreigner to coach their kids – and Danny wasn’t given the respect he deserved. It was a role more fitting to the South American’s skills, and Begara’s standing in the world game meant he deserved much more than a back-door entrance to English football. At the end of that season Bergara became the first County boss in history to lead a team out at Wembley Stadium when the team faced Stoke City in the Autoglass Final, in doing so he became the first manager born outside the UK, to lead an English club side out at The National Stadium. It wasn’t just his Latino lilt that set him apart, but also a philosophy which valued skill as highly as traditional British attributes like teamwork and work rate. The Vernon stand also homes the gantry for the club where all the footage for the club is recorded and where commentary takes place. Bergara also managed the Brunei national team and the England Under-18 and Under-20 sides, with a World Youth Cup win also to his name. He made a lasting impression on all his friends and colleagues as a canny football coach in a foreign country. As with the Main Stand opposite, the roof is supported towards the front by several steel columns; their thickness and location are partly explained by the fact that when the current roof was built, in 1956, it had to be erected in front of an existing roof, which covered only the rear part of the then much deeper and higher terrace.

Stuart Brennan (Manchester Evening News): There has never been a football manager quite like Danny Bergara. A member of the Hatters' hall of fame, Bergara was in charge at Edgeley Park between 1989 and 1995 and played a key role in taking the Hatters to one division below the Premiership. Netting was controversially placed in front of the terrace during the late 1980s; after the disaster at Hillsborough Stadium in 1989 the netting was removed. Hasta el día de hoy, cada vez que juega de local en el Edgeley Park ese equipo se iza la bandera uruguaya en honor a "Danny". Daniel Alberto Bergara de Medina (24 July 1942 – 25 July 2007) [2] was a Uruguayan footballer and manager. They reached the playoffs in 1989–90, only to suffer a heavy defeat by Chesterfield in the semi-final.
