Her piece "The Story of Dyngo, a War Dog Brought Home From Combat," about the retired Air Force bomb-sniffing dog she adopted in 2016, was featured in Smithsonian magazine's "America at War" issue. The two go to Albania to test the ammunition and win the contract, though Efraim learns they severely underbid their competitors. Because there’s so much history and ground to cover, everything is fairly brief, but it’s extremely interesting and I loved the insight into the handlers as well as their dogs. I was absorbed in Bryant's stories and experiences on the front-line; the decision he made to be separated from his children and the consequences of doing so.

Iz informs David she is pregnant, and Efraim offers him a job at AEY; although David and Iz vehemently oppose the war, David joins AEY and lies to Iz. The book is filled with many heart-warming stories of the affection that dogs and soldiers show each other. My single biggest takeaway from this book is that dog love humans unconditionally regardless of their background, if they are in a wheelchair, blind or maimed.

If this book is over 5 years old, then please expect the pages to be yellowing or to have age spots.

I initially thought the book would have more individual stories in greater detail, but it's still a story that needs to be told. So again I get where the people featured in this book are coming from when they share their stories. Also the struggle of being a dog in the war, and the attachments between the different men and the dog. The FBI had previously arrested Ralph, who wore a wire in an incriminating meeting with David and Efraim. AEY secures larger and more lucrative deals, expanding their operation, and David's daughter Ella is born, while Efraim grows more unstable and untrustworthy.I felt the author was too historical and wasn't very personable, but again I do not know much in the way of military jargon. This book is about how dogs in the military came to be, it tells a story about a black labrador who is off to serve her country in WW2. Full of hard-to-put-down stories about military dogs and the handlers who love them (and are often told not to).

Ms Frankel takes you right into the heart of the Military Working Dog program with all its heartbreak and grit. Venn and a handful of survivors are forced to trek across the Mars desert, barely surviving from day to day by finding isolated caches of air and water dropped for previous expeditions. As a former military working dog handler, I can be skeptical of stories and reports on our beloved dog teams as they can often be sensationalized or full of misinformation. I loved the respect Bryant showed to all of his children, their mothers and their partners, a small detail, but it really made Bryant relatable.Journalist Rebecca Frankel has done an excellent job showing the life-saving work of specially trained dogs in Iraq and Afghanistan. The cover may have some limited signs of wear but the pages are clean, intact and the spine remains undamaged. Has spent the past four years in Afghanistan working with elite American special forces alongside his faithful dog. This account of military working dogs is inspiring, tragic, and revealing of the deepest bonds of trust that humans and dogs have built between themselves for eons. Rebecca Frankel gets up close and personal with Marines as handlers of those all so important and often over looked canines who save lives daily, especially the lives of those military personnel who follow them in combat.

War Dogs: Tales of Canine Heroism, History, and Love

With all of the stories presented, it is hard to believe that is not a mutually shared love in these unique relationships.

Initially, Jesse Eisenberg and Shia LaBeouf were set to star in the film; [16] however, Jonah Hill and Miles Teller were eventually cast. The story is great, following around a well-trained black lab as she assists her soldier/trainer in a few different war-canine functions. To me the theme in this book is an emotional bond between man and dog, shows that what ever struggles happen both will triumph, in their own way. According to Bella's current handler, deployed special forces dogs normally survive only three months.
