For these reasons, you won’t want to use the I1601FWUX for any heavy photo or video editing. But, assuming you’re working with a laptop that’s powerful enough to competently handle something like Adobe Premiere Pro anyway, your device will (hopefully) come with a decent screen. The entire thing measures 14.9 x 9.25 x 0.3 inches and weighs 1.8 pounds (2.2 pounds with the included cover), which makes it slimmer and lighter than most tablets and significantly lighter than even most ultraportable laptops. Although it's slightly larger than the Asus ZenScreen MB16AC (14.6 x 8.9 x 0.3 inches, 2.8 pounds with cover), it's lighter and still small enough to easily slip into a laptop bag. Using the display on the go is not quite as simple. The slim display comes with a folding magnetic cover that does double duty as a display cover for storage and a stand for portable use. The AOC I1601FWUX doesn’t support HDR. That’s good news. A few monitors in the same price range claim HDR support, but don’t be fooled—they offer little more than the ability to accept an HDR signal and don’t offer a passable HDR experience. AOC’s decision to keep HDR off the feature list is an honest, accurate representation of the monitor’s capabilities. AOC I1601FWUX: Motion Performance

AOC I1601FWUX review: A budget portable monitor - PCWorld

Overdrive is set to ‘off’ as standard, and for much of the time you’ll probably want to leave it that way. Ghosting – that unsightly blur caused by fast-moving objects on digital displays – was very noticeable on this video , but we found that bumping up the I1601FWUX to its medium overdrive setting mitigated this.

Connecting the display is dead simple, thanks to the USB Type-C connection. Plug in the single cable, connecting the monitor to the laptop, and you're pretty much done. Press the power button to turn it on, and the automatic driver installation takes care of the rest. During our testing, we used the display with a Dell Latitude 7389 2-in-1 laptop, the HP Chromebook 13 G1 and the Apple MacBook Pro 13-inch (Touch Bar). In every instance, the display connected easily and worked without any additional driver installation or setup. In terms of external controls, there’s the power button… and that’s it. If you want to tweak any of the settings, you’ll need to use the on-screen controls. When devising the I1601P, AOC clearly prioritized an ultra-sleek and light design over all other considerations. For the most part, this approach makes a lot of sense, but does result in somewhat of a trade-off. Contrast ratio is 565:1, which isn’t ideal. Generally, a decent level of contrast for an IPS monitor is anything close to 1000:1 or higher, so this is way off the mark. This is particularly noticeable when watching videos where there’s plenty of dark areas or high levels of contrast – live music videos being a good example. As we said above, you can get around this somewhat by upping contrast and overdrive, but it still isn’t perfect. If you have worked through the other fixes and you are still getting a no signal message, then you need to try something a little more on the hardware side of things. You may need to try to connect your PC to a different monitor or your monitor to a different PC to see if the issues continue or if it is the combination of the two.

Another small gripe: the USB-C to USB-C (with USB-A adapter) is annoyingly short. Sure, this portable monitor is designed to be used alongside a laptop or mobile workstation, but when you’re at your home office desk, you can’t use the I1601P as a small second monitor unless your tower sits right alongside. Features The monitor also has what AOC calls LowBlue Mode, which adjusts color temperatures on the display to reduce blue light. Certain wavelengths of blue light that are commonly produced by monitors and other glowing displays have been linked to eyestrain, insomnia and even age-related macular degeneration. Automatic color tweaks seem like a simple way to avoid some of this potential damage. The display has a couple of interesting features, including the ability to rotate 90 degrees with automatic pivoting. There's no need to adjust the screen orientation or tweak your display settings. Just set up the display on its side, and you get a portable screen with a vertical orientation. The AOC monitor doesn't require any additional software. The company covers the portable monitor with its standard warranty, which offers three years of coverage but only one year for the LED panel. The firm also includes software for your PC (e-Saver) that will allow you to control the power management and a desktop screen splitting tool. The additional software can be found on the physical disc that is included in the box. The disc also has the user guide and monitor driver. Conclusion Despite it not being plug and play on the Windows 10 units I tried, the I1601FWUX worked instantly when plugged into a Mac. It didn't require any drivers and it just powered up and started showing an image in less than five seconds. It felt kind of weird having a secondary display, but using it for a few days, it made sense. It hasn't been a necessary part of my arsenal, but having a press release on one screen and the writing area on another or similar setup, proved very useful.
